Buprenorphine/ Temgesic

My chemist is telling me they cannot dispense Buprenorphine nor Temgesic as there is a manufacturing problem. I have to ask my GP to prescribe something else. Does anyone else have a similar problem ?

There are occasional shortages of various meds on and off, all the time.

Your pharmacist should be able to check it on the NHS site.

Often it is only one particular formulation -say 8mg rather than 10mg - so it should be possible to work around.

There also may be different generic makes ,which- in Ireland - the pharmacist is obliged to substitute, if suitable.

I'd be inclined to go back to the pharmacy and stamp your foot a few times. Maybe even have a little meltdown!?😝

Good luck.💚

I've had a word and they are now able to source enough for a month supply. Thankyou Madlegs 1

I support your attitude, Madlegs - but is there any chance a pharmacist might mistake a patient's firmness for "drug-seeking" behavior?

She is just looking to get her prescription filled.

It is the job of the pharmacist to do just that.

Not be hiding behind distribution difficulties?

I agree 100% - but here in the US, I've had more than one pharmacist so fearful of filling a legitimate opioid prescription that they just flat-out refused, no questions asked. I find that attitude to be infuriating.

I can see where you're coming from. Extremely infuriating!

Oh god no!!! My pharmacist has been unable to source Accord 0.4mg but he can get prefib 0.4mg. It's not as effective, so I have to take an extra 0.1mg every few nights.I wrote to Accord and they confirmed there was a manufacturing problem, but my pharmacist could source other brands.

Your chemist should be able to call other distributors and pharmacies to obtain supplies OR you can call around various independent pharmacies to ask if they can obtain a supply.

I stopped using Boots years ago because they were terrible and would never call around to find medications.

Your pharmacist should realise that there is 'nothing else' equivalent to Buprenorphine.

I'll ask my pharmacy today where they source their meds.

Thankyou Joolsg. This seems to happen every month lately. It's very unsettling

These are the brands available in the UK. Hopefully, an independent pharmacy will be able to source at least one of these brands.
