Upcoming cataract surgery

MountainWanderer profile image

Hello,

I am so grateful for this group and the information and advice I have gotten here. I hope someone can help me with this:

I am having cataract surgery next week and wonder if any of the medications on this list, which they MAY use, would have an adverse effect on my RLS:

ofloxacin (antibiotic)

qetorolac (anti- inflammatory)

prednisitone (steroid)

versed (pre-op sedative)

propofol (diprivan)

fentanyl (opiod)

ketamine (dissociative anesthetic)

lidocaine (anesthetic)

tetracaine (local anesthetic)

And if so, are there safer alternatives?

Thank you so much,

Nancy

They should all be fine. Just be aware that since you will be having an opioids that you may have some withdrawal effects as they wear off.

Hi Merny5, when you say you did not do well with the steroid, was it for a long term, or was it for a short time, such as surgery? Thank you for sharing.

It was a short term situation after a surgery. It was apparent almost immediately that I could no longer take it. The intense sensation and my leg jerking was out of control.

Hi MountainWanderer. I recently underwent cataract surgery on both my eyes over a an 11 week period and had to use the following drops 4 times a day for a month for each eye and thankfully didn’t have any side effects and certainly didn’t worsen my RLS.

MAXDEX 0.1% w/v (Dexamethasone) Eye Drops, Suspension. Anyway good luck with your surgery the results are amazing and the world has greater depth of colours.
