Restless legs after surgery

Has anyone experienced an increase in their symptoms following surgery? I have just had hip replacement and the restless legs are now a nightmare - they were more or less under control before on Ropinirole, Tramadol and a small dose of Clonazepam. Help

Yes this happened to me too and it's a common reaction. My legs returned to their usual pattern soon after my surgery. I hope yours do too. Good luck.

If you search the forum or Google for "restless legs post surgery" you will find it is very normal. I guess blood loss alone could cause a drop in iron levels and make it worse.

Thank you Jumpey and Aspmama - it makes me feel better knowing this is normal. I am sure things will return to what is normal for me fairly soon. At least our horrible condition is becoming better known, as my normal drugs were continued in hospital no question. Thanks again

Mine increased tremendously after aurgery and got even worse after I came off the morphine that I'd been on for over 18 months. However, I'm not sure if the morohine was just disguising the RLS as now I have been diagnosed with dystonia and the RLS is thought to be part of it.

I had a knee replacement just two weeks ago and clips removed this morning. I seem to have sailed through the process with very little pain and have already accomplished a good amount of movement. However, I am suffering from what feels like my usual RLS discomfort whenever I try sitting with my leg up. I'm thinking this might be part of the normal healing process as, (at the moment), the discomfort apprears to be restricted to the one leg, or is it that the 30mg Dihydrocodeine Tablets prescribed as part of the Pain Control/ Healing Process is helping in some way. No doubt time will tell, so I'll keep you posted.

In the meantime I'll continue enjoying the good nights sleep these pain killers seem to allow...

I had total knee replacement and am having restless legs every night and haven't been sleeping well. It's driving me nuts. I had some gabapentin from my fibromyalgia that didn't work for that so I read it helps with restless legs and started taking it again and it helps a little but I still wake up in the night. I hope this goes away!
