Has anyone used any of the above for their RLS? If so, could you tell me what brand Hemp Cream works for you and the dosage you take in any of the others?

Hi, I've no intention of deterring you from trying any of these. I would say that if you do try any, let us know if they worked and better still if they're still working after 3 months. That would be really helpful.

I have tried 5 HTP myself with no effect.

I've never heard of hemp cream.

The two others you mention are amino acids and both are important for the brain to be able to manufacture neurotransmitters e.g. dopamine.

The significance of this is that when you ingest them, they can actually get into the brain.

In normal gut health, i.e. if you have no malabsorption issues then the two acids should be easily absorbed into the blood. When reaching the brain these two acids also easily cross the blood brain barrier and get into the brain.

Once there, they can be used to make neurotransmitters.

The question then is do they actually increase the amounts of those neurotransmitters?

Normally we take food supplements, (which is what these two are), when we're lacking something e.g. iron for anaemia B12 for B12 deficiency, vitamin D for that deficiency, vitamin C to prevent scurvy etc.

In most cases, where there is excess the excess doesn't get used.

With normal gut health and sufficient protein in our diet then the protein is broken down into amino acids and absorbed. In other words, we should be able to get all the amino acids we need without food supplements.

Again, the question is if we take extra amino acids do we get extra neurotransmitters?

I can't answer that.

The next question is, if we do get, say, extra dopamine, does that help RLS?

I can't honestly answer that either.

Taking drugs like levodopa does raise dopamine levels and can relieve RLS, but, causes augmentation.

RLS isn't due to a lack.of dopamine anyway. In RLS there can be a pre-existing excess of dopamine.

Overall then, it's really not clear from a biological.point of view whether these amino acids will help or not.

Please try them if you're willing and let us know.
