Sleeping Meds

Are there any sleeping medications that don't increase RLS symptoms? I have tried CBD and Melatonin but neither have helped. Over the counter meds and Amitriptyline made the RLS unbearable . I am taking Lyrica and Tramadol atm but they don't help with the sleeping thing.

Many thanks in advance

Zolpidem doesn’t worsen RLS but should only be taken occasionally- maybe twice a week.

Cannabis will also help sleep and some people find it helps their RLS as well.

Hi Mantel

I actual do take Zoleridem 10 nightly I have done for months , however a better option would be Normison .

Never take sleeping pills if RSL Is not under control or it’s is a nightmare.

My oxycodone keeps my legs still , however like you I don’t sleep without a helping hand

Good luck and lots of sleep 😴

Melatonin reduces dopamine levels and hence makes RLS WORSE.

A natural method for helping sleep is to get lots of natural daylight during the day and avoid artificial lighting in the evening, especially backlit devices.

It's light that regulates Melatonin levels naturally.

Have you taken Trazodone, Pippins?

If so, could you enlarge?

I have has Trazadone prescribed although it was several years ago. Although it is actually an antidepressant in higher doses, a low dose works very well as a sleep aid. I didn't take them on a regular basis they were only for occasional use and they worked very well. Sent me to sleep when RLS was mild within 30 minutes. I did try the much higher dose for depression but I couldn't tolerate the drowsiness, dry mouth and dizziness. However the low dose didn't leave any after effects after a good few hours sleep.

Hope that helps

It does help, thank you.

May I ask what the dose was to assist sleep?

My doctor gave me trazadone. I cut the pill into quarters and it helps me sleep. Sometimes I take a half pill. I am able to sleep through my rls.

I take a small dose of Oxycodone for RLS at night. Lunesta 3 mg. Or Valium 10 mg. Helps with sleep. Also I get the same quality of sleep with a full spectrum Hemp based CBD oil ( Functional Remedies) . I take 4 times the recommended dose. There is great variation in Hemp CBD oils. I found some worthless. I also use full spectrum CBD oil from marijuana plant that has slightly more THC in it. In the US that can only be bought in a state that legalizes recreational marijuana. Unlike some people I can’t sleep on high doses of THC . Hope this helps.

Unfortunately, this site is UK based and most members are in the UK, full spectrum CBD oil is illegal. I have read however, that as you say, Marijuana products are more effective than Hemp products.

When I can’t sleep I take 5 mg lorazepam (Ativan). Or

use Hyland’s Restful Legs which helps a lot with the RLS and falling asleep.
