Has anyone tried using magnesium to treat RLS?
Yes- it works well for many people. How are you thinking of applying it?
Orally- citrate or bisglycinate are two good varieties.
Topically- epsom salt bath is popular, two or three big cups of epsom salts in a very warm bath for 20 min soak, or make up an 'oil' equal amounts of epsom salts and aqua, and rub on legs.
Tell us how you get on🤗😎
My Dr started me on Mag Chloride foot soaks per 30 minutes nightly! I watched a YouTube video with the Doctor Carolyn Dean, who wrote the book- The Magnesium Miracle- I ended up buying her book from Amazon. I also ordered some Magnesium Threonate, as it is supposed to Readily pass the blood brain barrier. I also take Oxycodone 10 mg noon and Oxycodone CR PM. I have problems with sleep, but we exhausted all other meds with no results! I will let you know-Thanks Wayne
See my reply to me I guess?
Hi Wayne, although i have never used magnesium, i know others on this site have and had good results.
I feel fortunate that the Oxycodne once prescribed (which was a fight) 99% stopped my rls, but i still had severe sleep deprivation. I was sent to a sleep clinic which gave me good advice as to how to get back to a normal sleep pattern along with 75mg of Pregabalin (now reduced to 50mg) to help sleep. It has helped and I'm getting there slowly. I have been told it is a low dose and can increase it if necessary - so maybe you could enquire about this if you haven't already tried this drug.
All the best. Barb
Low magnesium or low iron may be just markers that your microbiome is out of balance, wich causes poor uptake. It has been found that microbes can produce neurotransmitters which are taken up by the body and some believe that it is these that cause rls. Try to keep your diet neutral or slightly ketogenic and you may notice an improvement.
Hi, yes, I have tried magnesium before by the suggestion of another member here, MAGNESIUM OIL, the person said when rubbed on the legs it helped take the RLS away, unfortunately it DID NOT work for me at all, but I keep it at home all the time for other things. It helps heal and makes you relax but nothing with the RLS. I do take magnesium capsules before bedtime, just one 400 mg and I helps me fall asleep and gives you an overall good feeling of relaxation, but I can’t do without my meds, I take 1, 50 mg tablet of Tramadol st 5:30 pm. , and another st 11:pm . I take the magnesium about 10/15 min before sleeping, just when you get that feeling you want to sleep soon. Magnesium is VERY GOOD in many other ways and it’s worth taking it just for your overall health. Great for the bones. Good luck, I’ve had RLS going on 9 years with great success with TRAMADOL. I hope you find what will help you because this has got to be the Morris desease one can have.
Yes l use Magnesium to keep my RLS under control.
I use New Era Mag Phos number 8.
You can buy it online.
It works for me and is all l need thankfully.
There was a period a few years ago when this product was not available and l had to resort to prescribed medication in the form of a dopamine agonist. It augmented and caused me all sorts of other nasty issues. I also tried other forms of Magnesium, but they did not work.
As with all things what works for one dies not work for another, but it’s worth a try as you just never know x
Thanks
It helps but no cure!
I take magnesium citrate during the afternoon when I feel my restlessness coming on and my naturopathic doctor recommended mag. glycinate which is more absorbable. I take at night before bed and it helps me sleep. Also take baths with epsom salts. Trial and error.
I also ordered magnesium spray for my legs.
