Hi there, I've looked up Kratom and it's described as a 'herbal remedy for depression', available online in the UK. I've got mild RLS and am not as yet looking at drugs for it but am already on Amitriptyline Citalopram and Pregabalin so I can rule those out as being any use as I had the RLS before I went onto these meds. I've got a magnesium spray that I use at night and use normal body lotion to massage the knots in my legs but sometimes it takes several attempts. I also take Valerian in a large dose available from Boots but if you're already on meds for your RLS it's probably best not to mix them. From what I can see the drugs available in the UK are Pramipexole (Mirapexin) and Ropinirole (Requip). From reading posts I've also heard of Rotigotine (Neupro) as patches but this is not a first line of choice for RLS. Sometimes the drugs we read about are what are available in the USA, (as is much of the research) but I'd be interested to hear what other drugs people are now taking for this condition in the UK. I want to know what to ask my GP for if, as most people here report, my RLS is going to worsen with time.

This has to be one of the most diverse of ailments. As such a diverse range of products help one but not the other. Magnesium Oil did nothing for me. Am taking ropinirol and tramadol for mine

Hi beady3, I keep losing my reply so I'll make it brief. I used to have Tramadol for another pain condition but I stopped it cos it was just making my normal problems with constipation even worse, but it's interesting that it works for some people. Thanx for chatting. Alison

Sorry, I'm not qualified to tell you the answer to that, maybe try your doctor? Alison

Amitriptyline can tend to worsen RLS according to RLS (Buchfuhrer, Hening,...). I took it with Tramadol and was on the ceiling after 3 days! May be worth checking it is not giving you a problem.

Hi John, sorry it's taken me so long to reply, I've been having trouble following the layout of the Forum. I also keep 'losing' my replies so I'll be brief. I'll ask my doc about the amitriptyline making the RLS worse but it was also given to help with another pain condition so I'll not risk taking myself off it unless my doc thinks it'll help. I took Tramadol for several years for another condition but decided to give it up cos of the constipation I had which was even worse than usual. I think I have a high tolerance to medication as I never react strongly to anything I take. Thanx again for your reply. Alison

Here's a post of mine on Kratom:

Cannabis is good too, (although not as good as Kratom imho), but its quite strain specific - one strain might work great, another not so.

Good luck, if you have any questions about Kratom there are a few of us on here that use(d) it so you should get them answered.

I'm keen to try kratom. If I do should i stop my meds (ropinirol) as I believe I need to do that gradually or suffer severe withdrawal symptoms.

in reply to99selkies

ALWAYS reduce slowly off the meds, no point making life harder for yourself.

And check legality, (although can be purchased as a candle additive!! ;) ).

I'm in USA (Florida), wish I could use cannabis. Right now it's 2:26 am and RLS in a rage. I'm losing my mind. Woke me up out of sleep. What to do? Gabapentin doesn't work anymore.

3420, Kratom is still legal in Florida. There was an attempt by your legislature to ban it, but it got defeated. It may come up again next year but the attempt will probably just be to ban it for people under 18, or maybe 21. I live in Pennsylvania, and have severe RLS. Kratom is the only thing I use and it completely controls the symptoms. If you search these boards you'll find lots on it. Or even better, search the boards in the U.S. as there is a lot about Kratom on those boards. bb.rls.org/index.php?sid=d2...

Yeah I had visited Florida along with a couple of other states and I had to check legality before I flew, (I wouldn't have been able to do it without the Kratom so holiday was based on legality of Kratom!!). Info here:

What's the status in UK Raffs? X

in reply toPippins2

Kratom at present is legal however upcoming legislation MAY change that.

The company that I buy from sells it as a candle additive so will hopefully circumvent the ludicrous law. But to be on the save side I have about 6 lb coming and will likely buy another 6 next month, I am restless tonight so I am reminded to br sure I to get a decent supply in!!

Bloody half wit half arsed and half educated politicians can't do anything right!

Raffs what medication are you on ?

in reply tobeady3

2mg Neupro augmented with 40/20mg Targinact. It just about covers me with a few bad nights but nothing I can't handle.

This way I have more 'space' to increase the drugs as tolerance increases.

in reply tobeady3

I've used both. I am using the prescribed stuff at the moment so as to conserve the Kratom.

Kratom is a plant related to the coffeeplant. Chewing the leaves, it behaves as a opioïde agonist. Latin: Mitragyna speciosa. Never tried it till now.

I find cannabis very helpfull getting trough the night. Make cannabis tea, 0.5 l from 5 grams of wiet. One small cup two ours before you go to sleep. zzzzz

Works for me better than the combi of Amitriptyline and Pramipexol.

I understand Kratom is sold at petrol stations but the FD A are looking at it. So it is probably destined for revision. My views on things people should not have to put up with pain.Retren
