Hi beady, well both can cause tiredness the next day but as your dose of Pregablin is extremely low I would say it is more likely to be the Tramadol making you so tired. To be honest I doubt if 25mg of Pregablin is actual making much difference to your RLS but sometimes a combination of 2 low dose meds works better than a high dose of just one so it may help. Hope apart from tiredness you are doing ok.Freddie has had an operation on his paw,he got something in it and it caused an infection so he has a big bandage on at present, take care ..Pippins x

Thanks Pippin,I am doing good but am trying to see if I can cut something out to stop me feeling so sleepy I find it hard going ,but then I also found it hard going when I didn't get any sleep,Tonight I am going to take one of each and see how that goes. Hope you are doing good to,well poor Freddy hope he soon gets better bet he gets lots of strokes and cuddles looking like that, maybe you should try a bandage, keep in touch xx

I find the Tramadol much more effective for RLS and the dose of Pregablin is very low, I would imagine it would do very little. If you have been taking the Tramadol for a while I would doubt that that is making you tired.

Best way to see what is causing the problem is just to exclude, say Tramadol, tonight then exclude the Pregablin the next night.

We're in a bit of a Catch 22. With no medication, RLS causes lots of problems with our sleep, making us very sleepy and tired the next day... but a lot of the medicines that treat those symptoms can also have a negative effect on sleep architecture... so you're able to sleep through the night and not be bothered by RLS, but you didn't actually get quality sleep, so you're still sleepy and tired the next day. Tramadol, and other narcotics, cause some people to spend less time in the restorative deep, slow wave sleep. That could be happening to you. It's a no win situation. :(

As I have posted elsewhere, I now take 2 X 300 mg gabapentin and usually one 50 mg capsule of tramodol before bed. Occasionally I take two 50 mg capsules of tramodol. On either dose, I feel fine when I wake.

I don't know what Pregablin is, but certainly I find tramodol has no discernible side effects, or hangover. Of course, like all drugs, different people react differently.

pregablin (lyrica) is gabapentin's patented cousin

Thanks, ookla, I thought from the name that it might be related.

ALL the meds i have tried for RLS make me sleepy the next day. I havent found one yet that doesnt. Sleeping at night is good, sleepy during the day defeats the object.

Well Elisse what do you take for rls,I think Tramodol are the best I have had I have had a lot of the Dophamine sort ,it's nice to know what other folks think and take ,thanks

in reply tobeady3

Beady at the moment i am taking two of the Tramacet, but they are not strong enough to keep my RLS quiet at night. I have tried the one 50mg Tramadol and the one Tramacet they also are not enough to let me sleep. I cant take two 50mg Tramadol as the last time i tried i was violently sick. So, i have been adding a 1/4 of Pramipexole to the two Tramacets. When i do that, then i get the sleepy next day effect. I have tried all the meds and in different combinations. All make me way too sleepy the next day. My body just doesnt like anything more than a paracetamol. Drives me nuts, and i am still looking to what will let me sleep at night but not during the day. :)

Elisse I had Tramacet no good to me not strong enough ,sorry Tramodol make you sick are you sure it was them because I find them goôd ,I hope I never go on another Dophamine tab you start on a low dose then up they go and befor long you have augmentation which I can only say was the worst thing ever,I don't think the docs know enough about that sort of medication, well I hope you get sorted soon xx

Hi beady Wondered if you were using the dopamine patch (rotigatine) and, if so, how many mg were you on when you experienced augmentation. I am on 2 mg but sometimes it doesn't work these days so as I have a lot of difficulty with tablets I'm in a quandary. I sometimes use magnesium which helps a little but would appreciate any advice from you or anyone else re. Non med treatments. I really can't believe how terrible this illness is😰

beady3 profile image
beady3 in reply toDisneS

Disnrs firstly I do not think there is anything Other than docs meds for rls,I have never had the patches only the dopamine tabs I started with 2mg then that stops working so up it goes I was on 8mg then augmentation started also my head used to nod not funny all that stopped when I went on to Tramodol,I also have magnesium salts in bath my salvation ,don't let the doc put med up over 4mg because that is max dose change to another Good luck x

Thanks beady, The max dose according to the packet is 3 mg but I don't want to go to that. If there's nothing non med at the moment guess I will have to wait for the relaxis pad to be accepted in the UK. Hope that will be soon!!!

I've had tramafol, but not for RLS. Does it help? I remember it making my heart feel kinda funny when sleeping. I would keep waking up with it. Never had the other one.

I know when I was taking percocet, I completely forgot I had RLS till I stopped. Too bad there's nothing else like it.

Hi I have taken Tramadol for a very long time now for a different reason it is the best pain killer for me.But does induce drowsiness. Rapinerole for my restless legs I can't do without it,they have tried all sorts ,yes I can get it in the day time two and have recently started with my arms.As long as I keep a strict time control I am OK.Interestingly I have sleep apnoea if for any reason I take my evening tablets late I can't sleep at all my legs are all over the place. How odd is that.

Incidentally gabapentin makes me hallucinate like I am insane.

Hi Beady

I take Tramadol for sciatica, and am currently on 400 mg a day, plus 4000mg of paracetamol. I would have thought 100mg of Tramadol is quite small to be causing drowsiness, but then everyone's different and perhaps they interact with the Pregablin, which I'm unfamiliar with. Also I think you start to build up a resistance after a while, as the main effect on me of Tramadol is feeling quite chilled, which is nice.

I've always had RLS but have never taken anything for it, as it's only occasionally when it really bothers me. However, I've noticed that the Tramadol is controlling my RLS, and when a few weeks ago I tried stopping taking Tramadol my RLS went absolutely haywire and was worse than it's ever been, so I guess I'm now inadvertently on medication for RLS.

I'm due to have an operation next month for stenosis of the spine, which is one of the causes of my sciatica, and am worried how my body will react if they don't continue to give me Tramadol, but that's a bridge I'll have to cross in due course.

If you think the benefits of taking the medication you're on outweigh the effects then I'd say stick with it and your body should adjust?

I just can't think how you cope with400 mg of Tramodol and 4000mg Paracetamol have you got that right,I don't know why get so sleepy because resting is not on my book so I just think it's the tabs

MumofSam profile image
MumofSam in reply tobeady3

Yes, that's right. It's more a case of how I could cope without it, as I'm in severe pain with sciatica and even then it only takes the edge off the pain. I do feel sleepy sometimes, but I guess my body's adjusting. I've had sciatica for almost 6 months, and it's only in the last 3 weeks I've had to up my meds so much, so it's been a gradual thing.

Can I just wish you all the very best and I do hope you will get relief soon,x

Thanks. I will be having operation on my spine for the sciatica on 14 September and, although the thought of it's a bit scary, it can't really come soon enough. Hope you start to feel better soon too. x
