The magic of not smoking

My name is Steve and I am aged 68, I have been smoking for 40 years. Last Thursday I was taken to hospital for a day with a chest infection. I have not had a smoke since and feel better for it. I did it cold turkey and it was not easy for a couple of days. As time goes on its getting easier but I still get cravings, when I do I drink lots of water and it takes the craving away. I was coughing up loads of nasty brown stuff and feeling sick, that is now getting a lot better. I am still coughing on and off, I think its my body getting rid of all the poisons from smoking. Today a week later I feel a lot better and can taste and smell more than I could. Writing this helps me and I hope it helps other people as well.

Hi Steve, (I love your screen name) Well done for your decision to quit👏 and of course for your 1️⃣smoke free week.

Welcome to Quit Support.💙

It’s never easy to quit but it’s easier with a little support.💪

Writing/sharing can be very helpful. Please feel free whenever you feel the need.

You're quite right about the coughing being your body cleansing itself.

Please read the pinned posts,📌 there is lots of information there. You will find the posts to the right or at the bottom of your screen depending which device you are using. Just click “posts” then click “pinned posts”.

May I suggest you drink plenty of water💧💦 to flush out the toxins and keep yourself hydrated.

If you feel you need any more help please don’t hesitate to ask. There is always someone here.

I will set your quit date as Thursday 14th November, assign you a winners' badge and add your name to the wall of winners.

May I remind you not to post any personal information.

Good luck with your quit.🍀🚭xx
