5 weeks this time and still sooo.. angry. Full of rage. Don't know if I'm angry at having to give up or I'm angry at being addicted so bad in the first place. Don't know that it will ever improve.

Hi Bronzewing, welcome back to quit support.

I'm sorry I've totally lost track of your quit.....

I gather that the quit before surgery didn't last.

Now you've re-gathered and are ready for another attempt.

Please don't be angry with yourself, I can assure you that it happens to all of us.

Please let me know what you need and your new quit date so that we can help you all the way. XXX

Bronzewing.

Its obvious that your angry at giving up, it happens to us all as tubby says....... but once you get your head around it, you will eventually lose the anger for being sddicted too.

I can promise it really will get better, we are all different so no one can tell you when you will feel better for it.

Just believe in yourself and what you are doing, and why!!

You can do this Bronzewing!! 😀👏👏👏👍🚭

I hope so V250 but I certainly lack the confidence right now. It surely is an evil habit. And yes, part of my anger is because I can't find another thing in this whole big wide world that takes it's place in regard to turning off the constant horrible nagging emotions. Thank you for your care

Thanks T54. Have been off them another 5 weeks already after smoking for 4 weeks post the previous 6 weeks off them. That seems to be all I can stand and I don't know why. My head just seems to give way and explode after around 6 weeks :( and I fall in a heap. I can handle it all up till then. So historically frustrating

Hi Bronzewing, I'm sorry that you're having such a stop and start quit.

I agree with ticking-ticker about using e-cigs,or consider vaping, as NRT ,as a stepping stone.

Here's a link which may help you.

healthunlocked.com/quitsupp...

Not many members have managed to quit at the 1st attempt. Practice makes perfect, try to be patient with yourself and kind to your body. Remember to drink lots of water as staying hydrated has a positive effect on our mental state.

I'll put your quit date as Friday 16th August. Please let us know if this is incorrect.

I know that quitting is not easy, keep this site close and take baby steps,an hour / a day at a time eventually you will manage to stay quit.

Thanks again for your support. 24th Aug was my quit day this time. I have tried vaping - not for me I'm afraid. Cough my lungs out LOL!! This is definitely not my 1 st attempt. It's probably not my 21st attempt. I'm one of these repeat offenders I'm afraid. But I keep trying. As you say, one hour, one day baby steps. Keep on keeping on huh?!?

Thanks Bronzewing, 24th it is.👍

I remember one of our members had something which looked like a cigarette but was just something to hold and put in his mouth. No nicotine,no smoke.🤣😋

I'm sure that we will find a way.💪🚭XX

That might be a good thing to get hold of. I will definitely check that one out. Am currently checking out some spicy cinnamon gum one member recommended - that sounds good also. Thanks again :)

My temper seems to be manifesting itself more since I stopped smoking (especially this attempt) I'm looking at it as a part of the process of kicking nicotine way off my tracks because early on (I'm a week into my #lostcount smoke free life) the mind games play hell so just have to keep fighting its good to have a bit of a temper (in appropriate circumstances) as we don't take any crap... Ironic, considering the amount of crap we put into our bodies through smoking. So let your body and mind play the course and stand your ground as long as you don't kill/hurt anyone in the process 🤣🍀🚭

LOL!!! Good advice Tom. Thanks for the belly laugh. I've been handling it ok up till the last week or so. Have been off them (this time) for 4 weeks, nearly 5. head just feels like it will explode . Am non-stop eating to compensate - will end up like dumbo the elephant if i keep it up.

Angry is quite normal and the obvious anger is at yourself for putting yourself through the misery of stopping - Thats the devil that wants you to carry on, despite the costs. Been with you since birth advising you about taking another biscuit when no one was looking, stealing a siblings toy to play with, going a bit too fast in the car etc. Perhaps you could channel the anger into "why on earth did I start in the first place - what an idiot - how much money have I wasted" sort of thing. So turn the devil into your personal guardian.

I have to say thats smoking is as addictive as heroin and just about as difficult to give up thats why we all need help and why these nicotine patches are so good - so thats another friend you got. So no matter how long you have stopped remember you have done so well - have a treat and chalk up another day. Like alcoholics do, take each day as a challenge and get through it day by day. You will be amazed how quickly the three month target comes round, then just another three and hey presto a year.

Did you know that after three days from stopping there is no more nicotine in the body! and for all of you with cold feet in bed, after 2 - 12 weeks your circulation will have improved enormously. So if it gets your feet a bit warmer, goodness knows how your heart will improve.

Just take your feelings and try and convert them into positives - it can be fun and is very therapeutic. Good for you for getting so far down the road with this life challenge.

Thanks TT. Personally I feel like a 'ticking-time-bomb' myself right now. I'm almost 5 weeks gone for the umpteenth million time. I have been trying to QUIT for over 41yrs.!! Have smoked for over 60. I'm sure that's why my head loses it. I've learned no other substantial mechanisms for handling the anxieties and stresses in life other than to pick up a fag!! It's worked for pain, stress, headaches, nausea, anxiety, anger, worry - oh so many challenges I've given the good old cig and it's usually eventually come through. I have no addiction to nicotine I'm sure - so much of it is the repetitive actions - the ritual. That's what flips the switch for me and makes me cope I'm sure of it. Just need to find another way to 'flip the switch' that doesn't involve a cigarette.

I may be shouted at for this but did you ever try vaping? It worked for me as a stepping stone. However after five days in your investment is significant and should not be thrown away. Yes it is habit, but the physical hit one gets with that first intake of smoke does tend to have a feeling of euphoria. What comes soon after is a sore throat and the ticking clock for the next hit - its a no win situation. What would you think if you were waiting for an operation and the surgeon said, just a minute I have to get a hit of nicotine, it helps steady my hand - I'd be off the table in a shot! I know it's silly, it's meant to be but that is really how you have to look at it. Smoking to you - it like a lamp post is to a drunk, as a prop and not as enlightenment.

How can you cope when you go into a no smoking area, or flight with no thought of smoking. Within 25 years I believe smoking will not be allowed anywhere other than at home - then I guess, there will be a selling point that the house is owned by a smoke free family. I believe it happens even now. You have spent some time telling my why you are finding it difficult to quit and how many times you have failed.

Now have a thought about how easy some of it has been, how it will make you feel better, smell nicer, taste food more - make the list of positives here for all to see - not one negative please - just the positives. You will soon find that the positives will outweigh the negatives very soon.....Never give up!

TT that's 5 weeks in, not 5 days LOL!!! I've tried vapping hon. Made me cough my lungs out :) Crazy huh? Not for me that one. Yes, being positive is the thing. You are right. I'm just having a whinge and a bitch to get my anger out there and away I guess. Part of my anger is from ever taking it up in the first place. Mother and Step father both smoked but I was the only idiot that took it up out of 4 kids. I know I'm responsible for that and I know I'm the only one responsible for giving it away. One day at a time like the alcoholics creed huh. Not a lot different I guess. Thanks for the reality check :)

I just came across your post whilst browsing through, I know you posted it 20 days ago but I want to just say, I have the same problem when I have nicotine withdrawal, and its so bad I scare myself at how angry and aggressive I become. BUT to stop smoking I was put on the Champix tablets rather than NRT and I have no anger at all with Champix... Have you thought about this method instead of patches etc??

Im now almost 4 weeks nicotine free and not one outburst
