Hiya Claire and a big warm welcome to quit support 😊

Well done on making the decision to quit as its the very best thing you can doπŸ‘πŸΌ

Please don't be nervous as this medication is very effective and lots of members have used this successfully. I don't have first hand experience but from what I've learned, it's important to finish the course. I know one of our lovely admin team used this and I'm sure he'll pop along later to advise you😊

Lots of helpful friendly people here, so if you need anything, just shout. Our motto is NOPE not one puff ever. Good luck, you can do it😊x

Hi Claire I stopped using Champix. It is important to take it as prescribed and the only side effects I had was feeling sick and some fairly vivid dreams. I actually enjoyed the dreams but the sicky feeling was not nice. But persevere as it did get better. I also re-read Alan Carrs book which helped my brain deal with stopping smoking. It is so worth it. I believe you still need some determination to succeed, but succeed you will. This family here is so helpful in stressful times, there is always somebody who understands how you feel. 🚭😊

Hi Claires1985, a big warm welcome to this lovely quit support community :) and quitting smoking is probably one of the best ever decisions you have made :) :)

Now then, I dont know what your GP has told you about champix, but normally its a 12 weeks course and when you start taking it, you carry on smoking as you did before, but try to set a quit date now :) normally between 8 and 12 days after your first tablet :)

When I used champix, it was about the 10th day, I just went from smoking 35/40 a day, down to 9 :o Sooooo, it really does work if you stick to the full course, as our lovely KC1946 has said :) cos I cut mine short and ended up smoking again :(

Claire, please try to eat something when you take a tablet, even if its a digestive biccy, this will help to stop you feeling sickly :)

When I used it, for the first few days, I got heartburn quite bad :( and like KC said, real weird dreams :o but it only lasted a few days :) after that all was good apart from wanting to flippin sleep all the time :D :D

Claire, if you need any help or want to ask a question, or just need a chat, then please feel free to do so :)

Good luck, Pete :)

Hi Claire and welcome to quit support.

Good on you for making the decision to quit smoking as it truly is the best possible thing you can do for your health.

Try not be be nervous...see this as a new beginning where you are taking back control :) :)

Have a read around the site as you will find lots of information to help you understand what to expect as your body recovers from the cigarettes..

No two people go through the same things but what is very apparent, is that no matter what you experience, none of it lasts for too long, its not nice, but is bearable :) :) and most importantly - it is SO WORTH IT :) :)

We have a great support family here so keep this site nice and close - All the very best of luck on your quit journey :) )

Hi Claires ... good decision. I take Chantix (US version) and have tried other methods in the past. This quit is somewhat easier than my previous attempts .. not aesy, but easier. For me, Chantix seems to take the edge off the more extreme side effects of withdrawal. My advice: FOLLOW DIRECTIONS (period).

BTW: "Vivid dreams" are a possibility but are also experienced by people withdrawing from nicotine without Champix. Nausea can also be experienced by non-Chantix users -=- especially people who are getting too much nicotine from other NRT sources.

Chantix/Champix blocks your nicotine receptors -- after you have been taking it a few days or so -- and are still smoking -- then you may experience nausea from too much nicotine -=- Then, it's time to stop smoking. BTW: Do NOT use patches or other sources of supplemental nicotine when you take Chantix/Champix. And as has been said earlier -- take the full course. 12wks.

I don't know what the statistics are in the UK (or who keeps them) -- but in the US, Chantix is supposed to increase your chance of really quitting, compared to other methods. Not everyone reacts the same to any prescription -- so follow directions and keep in touch with your prescriber... and us too!!!! --=WILL

Hi Claire

I'm in my 4th week of taking Champix and on Day 17 of my Quit so thought I'd just share my experience. The first week, I did suffer from some nausea but not enough to make me stop taking it - for me, getting ready to stop smoking was more important than feeling a little nauseous. I quit on about the 8th day of taking Champix - in fact 2 days earlier than my planned quit day but I just couldn't work out why I was still smoking. So I figure the Champix must have been working. I have quit and re-started smoking about 4 times now but am throwing everything at it this time. The lovely people on this site are a big help - even though I haven't posted much, I'm reading the posts every day. Hope the Champix works for you - taking after food helped me get rid of the nausea. Good Luck. I am loving being a non-smoker. NOPE and "Cigarettes are not my Friend" have become my go to mantras.

Hi Claire,

Today is the end of week 6 for me using Champix, still smoke free! I have had some strong urges for a cig, usually with a drink but I've prevailed, the thing for me when I started using Champix was I found the taste of smoking very unpleasant and stopped enjoying a ciggie making it a lot easier to finally quit, I hope it works just as well for you.

You will most likely get the dreams( I did and it seems most others did too but not all) but as others have said these can actually be quite enjoyable.
