Hey maddog2020, well done for making the decision to quit, it's the best thing you can do for your health πŸ˜ƒπŸ˜ƒ and welcome to the quit family, we are not a bad bunch and we are all going through the same thing... πŸ˜†

Please don't give in to the cravings.... try going off for a walk or drinking a glass of water...the cravings don't normally last that long so hang on hun πŸ˜ƒ

How are you quitting? NRT? Champix? Cold turkey?? If you have any questions just holler, there's normally someone about.

There are some great posts on here that can help you so have as mooch around πŸ˜ƒ keep up the good work and keep us posted 😁😁

Hi ya Maddog and a big warm welcome to our quit support forum :) :)

As Droopy has said, you've made the best decision that you can make :) thats quit them flippin white sticks :) A GREAT BIG WELL DONE TO YOU for reaching day 2 :) :)

You are going through the hardest stage of quitting, you get that first week over with and it will get a lot easier for you :) Each time you beat a craving, the next one wont be so severe and for as long :) If you look to the right of your post, you will see ''TOPICS'' have a gander through them, cos this will keep you and your mind busy :) This is what we have to do, distract our minds, keep busy doing something, with your hands preferably, if your sitting down, get up and have a walk around, go into a different room, go for a walk outside, try a bit of exercise, cos this really did help me :) Thump a cushion, shout out, anything to get rid of that mr nic :) :) Have you got any hobbies that you use your hands :o

Stick with it Maddog and flippin fight it :) get stuck in and fight that mr nic so you can be free again :) :)

Pete :)

Hi Maddog and welcome and a big warm welcome to quit support :) :)

Our lovely Droopyj has given you some good advice :) :)

These first few days are the toughest, but with a strong determination you will get through them :) :)

When it comes to cravings, we really need try and turn them into something positive which will help you on your quit journey.

See cravings as a positive, You are in control and are stronger that old Mr Nic who will try all sorts of things to get you back smoking. Tell yourself that you are now a non smoker and when those cravings come, just laugh them off for trying but not winning over you :) :)

We have a wee mantra that we use here NOPE Not One Puff Ever... follow that and you will remain a non smoker :D :D :) :)

Read up on everything quit under the topic headings, as having the knowledge on what to expect removes alot of anxiety that comes with quitting,

All the very best of luck on your quit journey and we are here when ever you need us :) :)

Hi Maddog, you've already had good advise given, would be good to know if you are using any NRT or quitting cold turkey.

Keep telling yourself your now a non smoker, and look forward to all the possative things you are going to experience, the most important being your Health, and wealth.

Please stay strong it will get easy'er, Good luck from me, :-)

Take strength in what you have achieved.

What helped me was knowing that days 2-4 are the hardest. Clench your fists, scream, run in circles. Do what it takes, then it gets easier (trust me it does).

Some timelines to help inspire you, and prepare you for what is to come are below. The "withdrawal list" is what you are dealing with at the moment, it's tough. But you are at the hardest part right now. See that list, realize what you are going to take on, know you can do it and get people around you to understand what you are dealing with.

You will be a good way down this list, see if there are any you didn't notice!

And give yourself a pat on the back, you have overcome the withdrawal list:

Hi Maddog,

You are at the hardest point! Your body is almost rid of nicotine and is telling you to please, please get me some nicotine.

This will get better. You will go through different phases over the next few weeks, but each day you are a non smoker the further away from your smoking days you get, and it will get easier.

Think of all the reasons why you want to give up and think of all the reasons to carry on smoking.

Keep going , you will get through this blip.

Regards

Jim x
