I have stopped smoking for 7 days cold turkey. I think and talk about cigarettes a lot. I still have cravings, especially after I complete a meal. My big concern however is with all the damage that was done to my lungs over the years of smoking, is there any recommendations of detoxing them?

Hi islandboy😃

Well done on your quit 7 days 😊

Thinking, talking and even dreaming about cigarettes is very common in the early days of quitting 😳

The best way to help your lungs and support your quit is maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Breathing exercises help with lung function, exercising and eating healthy. Some people think certain foods or spices aid in detoxing the lungs, I believe good old fresh air is the best medicine 😊

Don't become too focused on detoxing your lungs, you've become a non smoker 😉 and that islandboy is one excellent way of detoxing your whole body

Have a look round the site there's plenty of advice, quit stories and information, if you have a question there's usually someone who can answer it or point you in the right direction 😀

Keep up the good work and keep in touch 😀

Xx

Aup Islandboy a big warm welcome to our quit support site and a big well done to you for quitting for 7 days AND cold turkey tooooo :) :) I take my hat off to you :)

I see our lovely Shantimar and Glolin have given you some great advice already :) and all I can say is to try to keep busy doing something, hobbies etc, so it takes your mind off the ermmm, you-know-what eh :D drink plenty of water, this will help with the cravings and help to cleans your body too :) Try to get plenty of exercise, this could help you with the cravings and it will also help to clear all that gunge out of your lungs :) you may find that you cough some phlegm up, just spit it out into a tissue and get rid :) this is just your lungs getting rid of rubbish :)

Maybe write down on a piece of paper, the WHY's you want to quit and keep it with you, then when you get a bad time, get it out and read it to yourself to remind yourself why your quitting :)

Take care and see's ya soon :) Pete :)

Congratulations,

By now you should (for most people I think) be passed the hardest bit. The lungs tend to take care of themselves. As others have said, just focus on having a healthy lifestyle.

There are links in conversations here and online about when changes happen to the body. Perhaps after a few weeks of the body adjusting and getting used to being a non-smoker, then will be a good time to have a chat with the GP, get some tests done, see how you are doing and then get some advice on what is best for your situation.

I'm not far behind on my e-cig quit (no cigarettes in years but stayed on e-cig too long), keep up the good work!

Hang in there and learn to laugh at your thoughts and when you think of smoking thank yourself for quitting and not being tricked into consuming something that has absolutely no benefits and so many nasty side effects.

Anyone wonder why tobacco is even in the marketplace? I'm just saying. Smoke rope or tea or paper but smoke tobacco?

It's really crazy when you think about the poisons.

Would you blend up the remains of an ashtray with water and drink it and think wow so many benefits from drinking cigarette ashes!

LOL

Most of your body ; including lung cells and all you bones and skin will replace every cell every ten years.

You will lower your risk of getting sick from smoking every day you stay quit.

Hang in there and realize that greeting better happens so slowly that we sometimes can't detect the changes and that when we might slip up when we convenience ourselves we feel good and can cheat ourselves.
