Don't know if anybody else has had problems sleeping with patches but it has been driving me nuts this week. Is this a normal side effect? Had enough now so going to trying taking it off before I go to bed.

At least the abcess has gone!

Hiya Karen, good to hear your abscess is gone but sorry you're not sleeping too well :)

It does seem to be a side effect of giving up and it's a good idea to take your patch off before bed and see if that helps :)

Good luck tonight and hope you get a better night's sleep :) x

monky profile image
monkyAdministratorCake sniffer outer in reply toBriarwood

Instead of using the fob bit, have you tried putting the actual key in the door :o

Cos it could be you need a new batterie in your key fob :) xx

Briarwood profile image
BriarwoodAdministratorDucky in reply tomonky

Thanks but the fob hasn't worked for years only the key but just been talking to my son and he reckons getting another key cut first coz it just might be worn. So I'll try that tomorrow and see :) x

Hi Karen Glad you abcess as gone now. Sorry you are not sleeping very well. I would take the patch off when you sleep see if that works for you. The fist 2 weeks I could not sleep very well. But I am sleeping really good now. And well done for bring smoke free for 2 weeks. Keep it up :D x

Hi ya Karen and a big flippin whoooooopy doooooooo to you for getting to very nearly 3 weeks quit now :) :) and I'm sooooooo happy that your abscess has gone toooooo :D :D

Hmmmm, I see you have a new Winners badge and very nice tooo :) I wonder who court that for you ? in the pouring flippin rain :o :D :D

Rite, down to the nitty gritty :o Patches :o by the sounds of it, you are on the 24hour patches and yes it is quite normal to get sleeping problems with them :( as I found out :( so I changed to the 16hour patches to which you take off at night when you go to bed :) and slap a new one on in the morning :) That did the trick for me :) plus I found that they stuck to me better or though, that might be just me being me :o :D

Kaz, I dont see why you cant keep to the ones you have and like you say, just take it off when you go to bed :) A little tip for you, put the next days patch under your pillow in its sachet when you go to bed and in the morning, it will be very near to your body temp, so will start to work faster :)

If you have any more problems, just say Kaz, cos thats what were here for :) :)

Hi Karen,

Sorry to hear that you are not sleeping , It may also just be part of the qutting process and not the patches. I say this because i quit cold turkey and it was after the first couple of days of being off the ciggies i could not get to sleep. Some nights i would be awake till 3 and 4 in the morning just tossing and turning. I tried all sorts of things to no avail. What I can tell you is it does pass. I probably went on for about 6 weeks. I know I was beginning to feel like a zombie :D :D Hang in there as it will pass

Hey Kaz, just a thought :o

If you did fall asleep in the classroom, I'm sure those little kiddie winks would behave them selves :o cos I would have done :o :D :D :D

Hi Karen, so glad your abscess has gone..... that's great news :)

Re the patches, I used to remove my patch at least 30 mins before I went to bed.... otherwise I used to have horrendous dreams :(

By the way, that's a great quit you've got going on there, keep up the good work :)

It took me around 8 weeks to start sleeping well again but on the +ive side I sleep better now than I ever have done & I don't wake up at 5:45 a.m. desperate for my first cig of the day !! Hang on in there it differs for everyone but the first few weeks are definitely the worst.Your 2 week quit is awesome, you're over the worst it's all up from here on in.Hugs H

I used patches some years ago but never slept with them on. It was never a problem as I didn't feel the need to smoke at night, just applied a new one in the morning and all was good.
