My dad got rushed to A&E last night with twisted bowel. He having surgery today at 11 am. Has anyone had experience of this with their loved one. We have asked for DNR and just to do what they have to cure his pain. It was so awful to see him in pain and he was so frightened in A&E.
Twisted bowel: My dad got rushed to A&E last... - PSP Association
Twisted bowel
In May of 2017 dad experienced a kinked bowel due to a femoral hernia. The bowel got caught in the tear caused by the hernia resulting in 100% blockage. He was rushed to the ER late on a Fri night where a surgeon tried to externally massage the bowel back in place, didn't work. They were racing against time to avoid tissue dying due to blood loss and him becoming septic. Early Sat morning he went in for surgery after all the risks were explained. Luckily at this hospital I had my copies of PoA and Healthcare already on file (several prior visits) so there were no questions about who to ask for consent. He came of of the surgery fine but spent the next 13 days in PCU ( level between ICU and general hospital floor care) because the bowel wouldn't "wake up". During this time he had a NG (nasogastric) tube inserted to clean out his stomach a few times plus they did one bag of feeding via IV straight into a vein, Total parenteral nutrition (TPN) . Even though I knew Dad's wishes concerning life support I agreed to this because I felt it was not really disease related and he was in much better shape then.

PS: I made PDF files of my PoA and Durable Healthcare to copy on my smart phone so I'd always have it in case of an emergency after this episode.
