I have only just joined this fabulous forum as my husband has sadly been diagnosed with PSP.
Sadly on Tuesday I had to take him to A&E as he had a severe pain in his side. They found that he had blood clots in both lungs plus infection. Is this a complication of PSP or unrelated perhaps?

I don't recall ever reading about blood clots as a symptom of PSP. I am not saying they can't be as so much is unknown about these diseases. Did the doctor mentioned aspriated pneumonia? That is a fairly common issue with PSP.
A serious fall with serious consequences (hospitalization, surgical intervention, strong medication, etc.) as well as a serious illness (pneumonia, severe flu, etc.) are typical situations that can trigger a fatal process. It is not uncommon for the PSP patient to overcome these types of situations - but these situations once overcome are often accompanied by some increase in the PSP symptoms and a decrease in the quality of life.
Yep, mom (CBD) had the exact same thing. It almost took her life. They caught it in time but she did sustain heart damage. That was a year ago. There is another condition similar to CBD called MSA. It’s different in that a hallmark of it is blood pressure disregulation, which mom has had for many years (dysautonomia runs in the family). But she also nearly exactly fits CBD criteria (she may actually have both conditions as she matches the diagnostic criteria in both at around 90%). To this end the pulmonary embolism may be related - but also being bedridden is a factor for those with an embolism (in spite of whatever condition may be the cause for being bedridden).
Jubaloo, welcome to the forum but I’m sorry you’ve had the need to join. I don’t wish this club on anyone but I’m glad that you found us. It’s so very helpful to know there are others out there and that we aren’t alone.
I don’t have any input regarding pulmonary embolism but I am thinking of you during such difficult times. Please let us know how he’s doing. It’s good that you took him to the hospital when you did!
Awww thank you for welcoming me. I feel like family already. Ian is home and on antibiotics plus blood thinners. He’s having another CT scan this week so hopefully we will have some answers. Regards
Hi he hasn’t seen one for a while but I don’t think it will be long before he needs help again. He is coughing quite a lot when he is eating but he does overfill his mouth and eat far too quickly 😔
The swallow reflex becomes impaired and food/drinks go down the wrong way thus risk of lung infections. Managing swallow with appropriate healthcare professionals is key. Food may need to be adapted to make it easier to swallow.
