Clearing a nose when someone cannot blow

Dear All

I had a break from decluttering for the anticipated move and took Nigel to the Hampshire PSPA meeting where we had a marvellous talk by a Speech and Language Therapist. Anyway whilst we were there I asked the question about how to clear Nigel's nose as it was a subject posted a while back and I had not associated the problem with Nigel's CBD. Several people suggested Olbas Oil, which we already use. Someone in the group suggested a nasal aspirator like the ones used for babies. Our local chemist did not have one but I found one on line that is suitable for all ages: PLUS+ COMFORT Battery Operated Nasal Aspirator - Quickly and Gently remove excess mucus - Safe for ALL ages. It looks as if it could be very effective.

Thanks I’ll google this Ali x

Hi All!

That´s my experience:

• For mucus and phlegm to be fluid, it is important to drink liquids. Steam inhalation from boiling water with a few drops of Eucalyptus essence and a small spoonful of Vicks Vaporub (Olbas Oil or Tiger Balm in U.K.) with a towel covering head and bowl helps. (One to three times a day.)

•Hydration: abundant intake of liquids (with thickener), is recommended.

•A steam atomizer to keep the air in the room moist helped, too. (40% - 52% moist advisable.)

Upon request: clean the nasal passages with saline serum until the air passes easily. Finish with a very light application of Oximetazoline Hydrochloride (Respir). Perform this operation always before going to bed.

Best Regards.

Luis

Wow, I never knew these existed. David had a constant battle with needing to blow his nose, and as he got weaker it of course became harder, I used to end up wiggling the hanky and squeezing lol.
