Failed surgery

Thanks to everybody for all the good advice. On 12/11, Dr went in with the robot arms but couldn't complete the surgery because of the visceral fat. I don't know why but after the surgery he seemed mad and kept saying that the lipodystrophy was a genetic thing, not a retroviral thing. That was weird.

Anyway, I'm seeing him again tomorrow for a "what do we do next" meeting.

My dad suggested I ask "the hospital" for a break on the $25,000 price tag of the ultrasound treatment. Anybody have any luck doing that?

sorry to hear of your surgery fail man and hoping things work out for you, I have had luck with the hospital reducing my bills before, not with anything to do with prostate cancer but other things.....why not

The visceral fat may be a benefit for radiation. What was your diagnosis?

My Px is cancer that's growing along the nerves of my prostate.

That's just Perineural Invasion (PNi). What i'm asking is for your PSA, Gleason score, Stage (was any imaging done), how many positive cores, prostate size, highest % cancer in any core, age, and race.

You might want to consider another doctor as a next step. This is difficult enough without having a doctor with a bad attitude and lack of compassion. When we are diagnosed with cancer, we want it out as quickly as possible. Speaking for myself, I tolerated unacceptable situations by doctors because I felt overwhelmed. Perhaps taking a pause and speaking with an advocate to help navigate this daunting process might be in order! Taking a step back, might offer more clarity for the best possible next step for your specific circumstances.

I agree my first surgeon was an ass I went to Johns Hopkins and could not have been treated better.

Take a break for the holidays and enjoy your family. In January start fresh.

Absolutely. Great great suggestion. I mean any madness in front of you is unacceptable. Do what you feel, though.

Yes, a second opinion is a good idea.

I have had luck by writing to the hospitals foundation. Check it out. Ask finance/billing... if there is a way, organization, to help with your expenses. Tell them a friend mentioned this to you. Twice, my bills got paid. In Your case at least they might be able to give you money towards the bill because of the circumstances if nothing else. Please let us know what happens?

I found a urologist that charged much less for testing and radiation. For example the hospital wanted $130,000 for 42 radiations, but the urologist charged me $30,000. During radiation I had a perforation that caused e-coli to give me sepsis and I almost died. The hospital bill was $23,000 and I went into the billing department and told them I had just paid 30,000 for radiation and was broke. A Catholic nun came out and stared into my eyes for about 3 minutes, and she said she believed me. So I paid $100. Then I need an antibiotic shot after New Years and they charged me $100. again because it was a new year! Usually a "Procedure" (for radiation or something like that) includes ultrasounds and metal fleck implants as part of the "Procedure". If the procedure was stopped you need to talk with the hospital.

I had a radiologist actually lie to me to get me started on radiation. I had decided to have the radiation before I saw him, but I lost all respect of his opinions. Merry Christmas and just remember to keep on truckin'.
