ADT AGAIN! - Any English guys managing to get Orgovyx on the NHS?

Reluctantly I have agreed to another friggin’ round of ADT. Bicalutamide for a month then Lupron 3 monthly injections.

I asked my NHS consultant whether this time around I could have Orgovyx instead of the above drugs.

I know Orgovyx has recently been approved by NICE so an alternative at last to Lupron.

Despite it costing as much as Bicalutamide/Lupron they are giving me the bums rush about offering it to me, despite my request.

If any English NHS patients out there are unfortunately on this good old ADT journey like me, are managing to get Orgovyx; them please let me know.

I know it is available in Merseyside as well as Scotland.

Brian (Nobby No Balls).

Hi Jaffa,

Sorry you are on the merry go round with ADT. I’m worried docs will be advising the same. I was denied Orgovyx in the states by my insurance but heard it was easy and more efficacious with less side effects. First pharmacy/chemist wanted $3,600 per monthly prescription and second $3,200, or roughly 2,800 British pounds. Found reputable sources in Belgium and Canada at $500 (still a ton of out of pocket money) which I’m using. Germany $280 USD but you need to see a physician /oncologist first and pay for visit, then it gets filled so unless you’re headed that way it’s a challenge. Overall it might be worth trying Orgovyx for 3,months and see if you feel better than with Lupron injection but again the cost out of pocket may not be to your liking. As a note in the USA lupron shots billed to insurance are more than monthly Orgovyx costs. So there is some billing/payout medical shenanigans going on when an insurance carrier in the USA and even British National Healthcare is forcing patients to talk injections over pill form. Someone has a “rebate” or industry lobbying going on to keep pumping $$$ towards lupron injections. The medical system at least in America is broken. Life saving drugs and medical attention is dished out inhumanely. The doctors and oncologists have our backs but meds are a whole different story.

Thanks for your response, really appreciated.

My NHS Trust here locally have told me that they are losing £5M a month, so there is very little chance of them changing the ADT drugs they currently prescribe.

That despite the actual cost of a year's dose of Orgovyx is slightly cheaper. Plus doctor's time is not needed to shoot you full of Lupron every 3 months.

What naffs me off most is that in the smaller countries of the UK like Wales and Scotland, who's budgets are supposedly lower, it is available to some.

The NHS here is, as usual in winter, in complete chaos. Nothing changes despite the new Socialist Govt. saying it would.

If you do get on the ADT merry-go-round I send you my best wishes.

Brian.
