Prostate Cancer with Covid

In Nov 2019 [at age 79] I was diagnosed with prostate cancer with a PSA of 96.2. The subsequent biopsy showed a Gleason 5+4 adenocarcinoma in 12 of 12 cores; clinical stage T3a, N0, M0. A bone scan and CT scan were negative for metastatic disease. But extraprostatic extension at the right apex with involvement of the right neurovascular bundle and findings of tumor invasion of the bilateral seminal vesicles. Indeterminate extracapsular prostatic extension.

TREATMENT RECEIVED: bicalutamide, Lupron 45 mg injection every 6 mos. Completed proton radiotherapy at Mayo PHX in June 2020 [67.5 Gy and 45 Gy to the pelvic lymph nodes in 25 fractions] : Started abiraterone + prednisone

First post radiation PSA on 9/29/20 was <0.10 - now starts the waiting game. I am active, walk 4-5mi/day

A week ago I tested Covid 19 positive. Quarantined at home, have a light fever [99° - 100.5° range], flu like aches, so far nothing more drastic. I need to pee every 20 min and am "tired" throughout day while in captivity.

My question: are there others in similar "prostate" situation that have contracted the Wuran virus??

How have you fared, what did you do, what should one NOT do? Any suggestions, observations -- particularly if they might be prostate related.

Tony

My best friend just had it. His worst symptoms were high temperature (104°) that could not be controlled by Motrin or Tylenol. He cleared the virus in 10 days but got a secondary infection with bacterial pneumonia. He is taking Zithromax and dexamethasone. He currently has normal temperature but gets winded easily.

The Lupron may be helping you fight it:

Just curious. Are you still on lupron or just had one 6 month injection? Were you on lupron when the PSA test was run?

Still on lupron - scheduled to be so for an additional year.

Just a reminder, if you read the leaflet with it although it's called a 6 month injection, it's actually 24 weeks

Hi Tony, you've been through a lot and it looks like you're doing the right thing recovering at home, definitely would be patient and make sure you get completely rested and well before heading back out on the trail. One thing noted was you mention urinary issues in paragraph about virus. Did you have urinary issues as result of proton radiation or did it occur after contacting virus. Best of luck Tony, Jim

Actually my urinary situation improved after completion of radiation. The need to pee frequently is new but seems to be easing. Probably a reaction to body stress due to virus. That's what prompted my post. I was wondering if others had a similar reaction or other symptoms that might be prostate related.
