I’m glad you were able to get the boiler working again S11m. I know when I realised my boiler wasn’t working recently my heart sank, luckily everything is OK at the moment.🤞
I know, brrrrrrrr! I had been wondering if that was you, thought it very likely given the name, but a small thing like the number 2 is enough to muddle my little brain😄
Well done, not an easy job I'd imagine! Reminds me, I've not had my boiler serviced in a long time, probably like many others given the current situation!
You make it sound easy but I know it’s not! I always watch in fascination when my plumber does anything and ask umpteen questions, but plumber I could never be😁 Far too difficult.
I'm only extremely glad to live in supported retirement accommodation, so never have this worry now.
But well remember the days, with children at knee, of lighting a coal fire which took all morning to heat one room... My age group revels in mod-cons & never takes them for granted!
Yes - a nice little flat with a maintenance contract that costs nothing to heat is really appealing - I have been trying to sell this old ruin for years.
Good luck. Safe & comfortable housing for the later years is a great blessing, I am very conscious of my good fortune. Though in this brand-new complex we pay our own heating bills through designated Companies, which we haven't yet received!! (Landlord mess..) Hopefully we are well insulated, & will manage. It seems to me that money is most valuable at this stage of life, to preserve independence & dignity. And that if you haven't got enough to do that, you're better off having nothing, to achieve support... A simplification, but largely true.
I live alone in a 17 room (including the wine cellar and coal cellar) Victorian house, with no insulation - solid walls and single glazing! Is it worth getting the leaking valley gutter fixed (again)?
Oh my goodness! Your poor old grand Victorian lady is in a bad way... I do hope that you find compromises to maybe make towards achieving more comfort. I hate to think of you being trapped...
Ouch ...and it usually happens to me when my MOT is due plus a multitude of 'must pays ' I get what you are saying as my washing machine doesn't have a front access filter like my old one that would just unscrew at the front , we could drain and out came the muck . Cars also are headaches as they are all done with electronic diagnosis kits . With my Dad it was up came the bonnet , lets get covered in oil then back on the road . We live in a throw away world . Not great for the planet but the manufacturers get loads of repeat business for flimsy things which don't last and cost a fortune.
In the Midlands. I was in Independent Housing for five years until health issues accumulated. Not having any help yet, but it's there in the background for when I need it (payable).
I know... As a (now)single, self-supporting woman I worried plenty about it. Perhaps there are housing ass./private options to investigate? I always say Information is All. We don't have to act upon it, but it can help to inform.
I hear ya...We had ours failed a couple of years ago...ours is heated by the cooker, and then hot water goes through the house and radiators. It was pretty major replacing a 25 year old cast boiler in our old cooker, but with some wrangling and maneuvering...we managed... so far so good.
My boiler packed up last week. Looked on you tube tried re-pressurising it and it worked!.
Ours did the same recently S11m. Luckily it's a pretty easy fix and usually nowadays I find most boiler engineers won't get out of bed to fix this one, but tell you over the phone how to get on and fix it yourself! Which indeed we did too!
