The inventor of the treadmill died at 54,Inventor of gymnastics died at 57,The finest footballer ,Maradona died at 60.the World bodybuilding champion died at 41.

So why doctors presume that exercise prolongs life i cannot figure.

Rabbits spend their lives jumping around and live around 2 years, while a turtle does'nt exercise at all but lives for more than 200 years.

So rest, chill, exercise without overdoing it or becoming obsessed with it,eat and drink within reason the things that you like and enjoy.

I once knew a lady who taught Yoga and her obsession almost killed her,and now the poor lady is confined to a wheelchair and is housebound and cannot walk at all.

Everything in moderation is the key.

I really and truly love this, and find it highly amusing and ironic too. Especially as someone who only does regular walks for exercise, and occasional swimming

same here,i walk every third day for a mile and thats about it,but i do a lot of gardening.x

Roxylox profile image
Roxylox in reply tosecrets22

Ah, gardening is not my thing, definitely would be good exercise, my tw sisters are great at it, each to their own. I usually get to walk twice a day, dog and I by day and again in the evening when my husband is finished work, only for about half an hour each time though, and probably should pick up the pace.

i do find gardening a bit of a chore now since my partner died,i used to love it,but now i do it because i like to keep it up together.x

I'm so sorry to hear about your partner, I didn't know your back story, how very sad.

Agreed, everything in moderation, Do just enough. Your body is a machine, overdo it and you will wear it out early.

Great post again secrets and so true. I'm very interested in Egyptology so I love the Egyptian statue. x

secrets22 in reply tospringcross

hey springcross.....we were addicted to Egyptology and used to visit Luxor at least 3 times a year, but i very much doubt i will ever go there again, but the history and the artefact's are extraordinary, the Egyptians then were before their time with the most gigantic temples and tombs ,their knowledge then surpasses anything today with the most amazing feats of engineering.x

I know, it's just incredible and absolutely fascinating. I always wanted to go to Egypt to see the pyramids and look round the museum in Cairo but I don't think we'll ever go now. I'm always looking out for TV documentaries, I can't get enough of them. Did you see the program not long ago about Moses, firstly they thought Akhenaten was actually Moses because of, amongst other things, his beliefs and religion change but by the time the programme had finished, they said they now actually believe that Thutmose (Akhenaten's brother) was actually Moses, it was fascinating. They really were before their time I agree. Strange how they have never found the tomb of Nefertiti! More to come I'm sure.

i think there is much more to be discovered, they are always unearthing new things. One of my favourite temples is Abydos, and the story of the English lady,Dorothy Eady ,who believes she was mistress of Seti1 in a previous life,a remarkable lady and all her utterances were true, she only died i believe in 1969,I could go on and on about her,but there is a book about her ''In search of Omm setti'' its fascinating.x

springcross profile image
springcross in reply tosecrets22

That sounds fascinating and I have made a note of the name of the book, thanks. I remember seeing on TV several years ago that Seti 1's mummy which had been stolen from its tomb was being used as a fairground attraction in America. No respect!

Wow, that's really interesting. I found a You Tube video about it earlier which I intended to watch (I should say listen to) within the next couple of days but there is a comment underneath saying that some of the details are incorrect. I may still listen and then find something more accurate later.

How interesting! I always said that exercise isn't good for you :)

I would replace the finest footballer however with George Best - to my mind the greatest footballer who ever lived who unfortunately died at 59.

i do agree with you about George Best,he was a rare talent, but as for exercise, you can have to much of a good thing.x

That’s so funny and observant 😂 The only one I’d disagree with is Yoga as some of the best teachers in India live to a ripe old age but it shouldn’t be an obsession, more a gentle way of life when done properly and without the westernised frills.

On the subject of rabbits- two of mine lived until they were nearly 10. Mind you they did tend to just laze around the house for most of the day 😁🐰

Bells are ringing here.I’ve always tried to eat healthily, gave u smoking 35 years ago.was always over weight even though ai had an active job.

Am now affected by interstitial lung disease and immune diseases,on oxygen.

Husband eats pies,pork scratching,hats vegetables

Hes skinny ,just has a bad back.probably from inactivity.

So there’s no justice,I’d eat pies myself, but my digestive system doesn’t like pastry any more.

Double no justice. I just keep soldiering on.

Sorry about the underlining/ bold.

I keep catching buttons.

HiYes, it's thought provoking. A friend of mine exercises every day and when the gyms are open she is there sometimes 3 X a day. We have all tried to tell her she is doing too much and that we all worry about her but she is obsessed about staying thin. She does eat well but I do worry that she does do too much. When I was little a man who lived near us went jogging etc every day and he sadly passed away at the age of 49, it was so so sad. Xxxx❤️💜❤️💜

You are probably too young. Maradona scored a goal with his hand which saw England sent home from the world cup. The referee allowed it. It was known forever as the Hand of God Goal.

MadBunny profile image
MadBunny

I think it's a reference to the controversial goal Maradona scored against England in the world cup- it went in off his hand and he referred to it as ' the hand of God'

Would never have been allowed with today's technology 😁

Yes, u remember watching it with my Dad and brother. My poor Mum went out of the room as she hated football. Now I'm going to digress. I can't remember when it was but England scored. We all jumped up!! Frightened my Mum who had just gone to bed and our cat jumped like in Tom and Jerry, his fur all stuck up!! Poor thing. 😂🤣He did look funny though xxxx❤️💜❤️💜

When we get old enough we will probably forget it anyway along with everything else :D

That's my view is how exercise isn't some sort of be all and end all of life!

Are those your 2 dogs then?

Yes it is so sad and strange. I find it hard to get my head around sometimes. Hope you are well.

HiYes, that is true. I'm pleased you are coming out of flare up. I slept better last night but every time this happens I wake up in agony in the morning. True to form this morning I woke up in agony. Then felt a little better but it's now back with avengence so I know it's not going to be a good night tonight !! Oh well, I will have to start doing my digital pain by numbers again!!

I have exercised most of my life and am back doing a daily workout. I've had a Total Gastrectomy some ten years and eight months ago, plus a fractured femur and in Dec. 2019 plus had a growth removed from my bowel due to cancer! Next I'll be 89 and a half years old and at my check up two weeks ago the doctor said it's because of your physical fitness you are still alive. I've competed at the highest level at sport : international. Physical fitness is fine, but without mental fitness ones lost. I've lived alone for the past 13 years after my wife passed away having chose to care for her in my own way against all medical advice after removing her from a Nursing Home. She suffered with Alzheimer's. and now see nor speak to anyone except for my daughter that delivers my food. I have a big family: a Daughter, Son, 4 Grandsons, five Grand Daughters and fifteen Great grand children. I've had little option but to live my own way. One size does not fit all. When the going gets tough one learns good lessons.
