I can’t remember posting this before?!? Bit of brain fog.. am 85 but no excuse. ?!

I’m haveing problems with headaches on top of my head. Couple of times woken up in night .. so strong. Other times just slight but most of the day. Gp requested blood tests.. all normal.homeopathic remedies ease it for a bit and then it returns. Doesn’t seem to relate to arrangements of pillows at night etc.has anyone had this problem? Could it be related to pmr? Am on 2 mgs.. now about 6 weeks.. having probs reducing to 1.5 .. going to try again for one day this week. Thanksp all!!!

2mg is a v low dose...you can stay on that indefinitely...I am wondering what problems you are having reducing...perhaps not worth doing.

Have you tried paracetamol? something like anadin extra is worth trying (paracetamol, aspirin and caffeine)...the paracetamol and aspirin (v low dose) have been shown to be particularly effective.

Hope you feel better soon

Thankyou. Painkillers work.. but can’t take them all the time. One very good night.. then last night woken every couple of hours. Drank lots of water! And now very little pain . Have been told that my house is in a Bad Place! Geopathic Stress?!?! mmmmmm

I'm afraid I don't think there is any evidence to support this geopathic nonsense...but there is evidence of the nocebo effect ...the negative things we are told can impact on us (the opposite of the placebo effect).

Regular dosing of paracetamol (as specified in the leaflet) will do you know harm...people spouting nonsense can.

paracetamol (especially anadin extra) and a couple of mgs of steroids can transform your life...go for it!

Is there a caffeine free version of that? Is there any validation of the view that if you take it too often it can actually cause a 'kick back' headache? I have had similar headaches on 3mg. Any advice welcome...

I am not familiar with one that is caffeine free. There are many weeks where I take a couple every morning...as soon as I feel that twinge which says a headache or migraine is brewing...and it zaps it for the whole day...no kick backs...and have done it for years.

The migraines actually disappeared as soon as I went on steroids!

You can combine the plain tablets - the caffeine is added on the grounds it improves the symptom relief and to increase the profits because it sells for more.

This is an interesting discussion of rebound headache:

can it be anything to do with adrenals. I am doing a slow taper of 1/2 mg down to 3mg and wake up every morning very ‘heady’ and a little woozy.

I’m wondering about this too as I’m down to 3mg after a slow taper. Just this last week I’ve had what I’d describe as very mild dull headaches at night. I take a paracetamol, all ok but do wake up with varying levels of wooziness.

Interesting… seem to come mainly when I lie down. Had a wonderful night a few nights ago. Ab no problem ! Night before and night after horrid. Never drink caffeine.

Onwards!!!

Me too, when I lie down in bed. I’m wondering whether this is linked to adrenals. I’ve had a few days of excessive fatigue, sleep has been intermittently good then several nights unrestful with a relatively high resting heart rate.

It’s always reassuring to know you’re not the only one.

I know. These conditions are so weird! Just wish I could feel reliably normal. You think you’re getting there and then wham, fatigue or another symptom hits you out of nowhere. Bloods all positive and I do have some very good days now but so unreliable. Good luck!
