Just a quickie, and excuse me for treading over old ground. Re starting Tapering , from 10 .

My Dr called me whilst I was away, for an update on my Cancer Op, how was I feeling etc…….

Mentioned to him about going back onto Pred, due to my fingers & hands . Long story short, wanted me to try and taper down until a comfortable level , and we would discuss In October, when I have to have further PSA tests, and stuff.

We discussed going from 10 to 9 ..8 and so on. My Brain is not functioning . Can I do that over a week , or is it meant to be Monthly .

I have gone down 2 tapers in 2 weeks now . Feeling ok I may add.

sorry for the silly question, but this is easier than getting through to the surgery.

Regards

Look above my post for FAQs and the really comprehensive description of recommended tapering programmes. Some doctors with different specialisms don’t understand the value of a slow careful taper, particularly at your stage. I don’t know what impact your current state of health would have though. It might be worth checking with the doctor on this point. Much better for Adrenal recovery. Best wishes!

1mg every 3 weeks is about the max we would recommend - it takes that long for your body to settle down with the change.

You say you have done 2 tapers already - so what dose are you at now? And what speed did you do them?

Thank you for your comment. Understood.

Probably 2/3 weeks . Currently on 8 .

So continue on 8 another couple of weeks before thinking about reducing ….?

We think it is safer/more comfortable.

You may feel okay at the moment after 2 tapers [so on 8mg?] and I know you were on 4mg previously , so in theory you should be able to taper quite quickly initially. But from now on I’d slow it down a bit.

Not sure how long you’ve been on the 10mg , but if it’s longer than we usually recommend for a flare [14 days max] it may not be so easy. Every 2-3 weeks rather than weekly for next couple of steps and see how it goes. Once you get to 6mg or 5mg, then much slower -and 0.5mg a time.
