HAS ANYONE TRIED CBD OIL FOR PAIN

My GP has advised that I must taper from 12.5mg pred asap as I have severe osteoporosis. She insisted I drop to 10mg after 4 weeks which I did on Monday then 9mg after 4 weeks, 8mg after 4 weeks & continue dropping 1mg 4 weekly until off pred. I am going through hell with pain that wakes me about 4.30am every morning & can hardly get out of bed. I am exhausted & can't stop crying. It has been suggested to me that I try CBD for the pain/stiffness. Does anyone have any idea if this will work for me & is it safe to take it with pred 😥 I feel so desperate

If you look to the right you will see Related posts - linking to a load of posts about the same question. To my knowledge no-one has found it works for the PMR - just for add-ons like poor sleep and so on.

Your GP is crackers - reduce the pred and you will be back where you were pre-pred. There is a range of medications which are used to build bone density which can be used alongside pred and normally are offered automatically as bone protection. Your GP obviously doesn't have a clue - you need someone who does. Has she told you your dexascan t-scores? How bad are they really? If you are not being treated for PMR with pred, then you are actually at higher risk - immobility is a great risk factor for loss of bone density and the disability of PMR increases your risk of falling a lot.

The most commonly used is alendronic acid, then there are other bisphosphonates. If the osteoporosis is already well advanced there is then denosumab/Prolia or even teriparatide/Forteo both of which increase bone density very effectively.

ROS has a very good helpline who would talk you through the options

Sorry, so to get this straight, your GP says you have osteoporosis so to save your bones, you have to live in misery with pain? I do think you need to see another doctor who will treat the PMR in a recognised way and using the commonly used bone medications if your DEXA scan suggests it. Your care should be discussed with you for the best way forward in order for you to have as best a quality of life as possible.

Prednisone for pain and stiffness,

CBD for anxiety,

Both work!

Hi there. I don't take CBD oil orally as drops, but I have used the CBD balm topically to successfully ease pains & muscle tightness in shoulder and neck.

I tried CBD for my PMR, and didn't find it gave me any pain or stiffness relief. It did help me sleep a little bit better.

I don't know whether you are in a place where it is legal, but kratom is very effective at handling the pain aspect of my PMR. (It doesn't fix the stiffness or fatigue, however.) I'm told that it is not legal in the U.K., but it is legal in all but seven U.S. states.

I tried CBD oil both before diagnosis (it made no difference) and then again after I started on pred. I decided it had no effect either on pain relief or sleep. So I’ve saved my money.

I tried CBD for a few months. Helped with anxiety and IBS and the stiffness but not so much with the pain. I stopped as the cost outweighed the benefit as it was costing me about £60 a month for the strength I needed which was unsustainable for me. I guess my best advice is try it and see if it works for you but start slowly.

There is a lot of info about taking cbd with prednisone on the net. Just google it then make up your mind. For me, I found too much info showing possible interference with taking both drugs. I didn't think it was helping enough to continue with the cbd. I do have a cbd cream that I use occasionally on my shoulders when they get achey. I don't use it often but it helps when I do use it.Good Luck

I tried CBD and found that it did not help for my pain, but it did help a lot for anxiety.

As far as the osteoporosis is concerned, I agree with the comments above. I have developed steroid induced osteopenia, so it's not as bad as what you have. But I took prolia to improve my bone density. It's an injection you take every six months, but it's not forever, it's only as long as you are on the steroids. I went to a bone doctor specialist and he said if I took alendronate, he expected that would keep the osteopenia from getting worse, but it wouldn't get better. But with prolia he expected to see an improvement.

My personal opinion is that it would be better to stay on some prednisone for the pain and take the prolia for bone density loss.

If you are only going to a GP for all this, I would ask for a referral to a rheumatologist!

Hope this helps!
