I have Been taking 3,000mg for two weeks. Can't say I see any difference, although I was able to decrease my pred. by 1/2 mg which I haven't done in months. So, I will just keep taking it and see how it goes..

Has anyone tried large doses of turmeric for inflammation?
Hello Linny3, I take Truvani brand one pill(it says take 3)turmeric/curcumin per day, 1000mg of msm, one epa/dha(omega3) and one nattokinase(reduces fibrinogens, cause of swelling),for about one month. My chronic anemia has stopped(I bought a hemoglobin/hematicrit blood tester). I also take one Gem per day(this is a small square food supplement that has two types of algae and spirulina plus other stuff in it). I take no steroids, have taken two shots of depo medrol(steroid). I take one celebrex about every three days. Rheumies say PMR, then say Ra, take methotrexate, I did for five weeks, then quit. I also have osteoarthritis. Pain is nonexistent on celebrex days, about a 5 on other days. Leg muscles hurt when walking, between knee and hip. We all listen to our drummers differently. Good luck.
I've been taking large doses of turmeric and black pepper for quite a while because it potentiates and improves the flavor of the kratom I take. I also take it because they say it is an anti-inflammatory, but you can't prove it by me. Besides the powdered turmeric I now take (Rani brand), I have also in the past tried at least two brands of encapsulated turmeric that use different techniques to enhance absorption. I haven't noticed any improvement to inflammation that I can attribute to the turmeric, though I can attest that the turmeric does increase the duration of the analgesic effects of the kratom.
Are you on any other medications? Have you checked for interactions? Pred plus turmeric may make bleeding/bruising worse as turmeric is a natural anticoagulant.
That is very high dose and could lead to problems if you take it long term.

Do read all the article for risksfor various situations as well.
So glad I read this sequence and your reply, PMRpro. I’m on 8mg Pred and 75 Aspirin and can, and do, bruise and the hands bleed for the slightest of knocks, often I don’t notice what caused the bruising/ bleeding. I look down and there’s blood dripping from my fingers.
Good grief! That’s such a graphic image. Have you consulted your doctor or a pharmacist. Bruising on Pred familiar but bleeding as you describe no! 😀
It’s not spontaneous but if I knock myself - usually the hands - I can cause a cut probably due to skin thinning caused by Pred (18 months in having started in jan 2000 on 15mg, now on 8mg). I’m taking Aspirin to thin the blood whilst waiting for a stent to be fitted, so it’s the combo of Pred and Aspirin that’s causing the problem. I don’t bat an eye now, just get on with it applying pressure to promote clotting.
Thank you for the info. I found this site that shows research about prednisone and turmeric and how it can be a good thing. I am not on any other medications other than tylenol. and supplements.I agree my dosage is a little high. I thought I would do a "load amount" for 2 weeks then back it down to 2,000 for a few weeks, then go on a smaller dose for a few months. All depends on how it makes me feel or if I have any side effects I can change the dosage. Probably won't be on it for over 3 months. That's my plan. I've tried so many damaging meds. to try and lower the prednisone and it just doesn't work for me, so I thought I would give this a good try.

Did you look at the references?
"Some studies have also proved curcumin to have a better therapeutic effect than prednisone in treating inflammation, arthritis and pulmonary fibrosis. [3] [4]"
are both studies done in rats. Rats and humans don't always show the same effects.
I don't dispute that it MAY help and I know quite a few people who use it (and garlic and ginger) in cooking and swear by it. It's the dose that concerns me - obviously you are OK thus far but it can cause stomach upsets. Good luck with it
Unfortunately taking daily turmeric gave me a very itchy raised red rash on arms legs and chest, peppered throughout with what looked liked flea bites. I have added a small amount to stir fries with no reaction. I do make up a 2 litre jug of ginger infusion and have a glass of that daily. Also cook with a lot of garlic. I searched ‘turmeric rash’ on the internet and found quite a few people had a similar reaction to me.
Hi Linny 3 , I took Turmeric with black pepper for several years to avoid any arthritis ( I had never heard of PMR ! ) so cannot say it was of any use as now have PMR and ?developing into seronegative Rheumative Arthritis !! I hope ,if you try it, it will help you, we are all different and what suits one will not necessarily suit another, best of luck
