Sorry I have been away for so long. I hope everyone is doing as well as can be expected. I hope I haven't missed too much.
From beginning of March to end of May I had managed to get down to 9mg.
Towards end of May I could feel that my symptoms were returning and reluctantly went back to 10mg as we were preparing for a UK trip.
UK trip was lovely, Thea was gorgeous and we really enjoyed being with the family for a few days.
My PMR wasn't brilliant despite 10mg and a couple of times I increased to 12.5 (I had no 1's with me) to try and improve things. I am not used to being busy, on the go all the time and having to get going so early in the day.
Upon our return we found we had 2 very sick sheep....so a few days of sheep wrestling took place (journeys to vets and injections to give).....so our recovery time took longer than usual.
I sent for samples of CBD oil (in a bottle with dropper) and have been using it for 12 days during which time I have not needed any other analgesia (steroids aside).
When you consider I was taking Paracetamol 2 x per day for 2+ years and sometimes this included Codeine I am greatly relieved. The neck pain (was it myofascial?) is gone (it has been gone for a 6 weeks of more). This morning I had to wait until 10h30 to take my 1st CBD oil as one must leave a gap of 2 hours between meds. My back was very achy as we're preparing for visitors arriving so I am doing housework. Within 10 mins of taking my oil....my back pain had gone. When pay day comes I will be ordering more.
The photo was taken at a nature reserve in Lincolnshire and Thea is wearing granddad's hat. I have asked for a copy to be printed so we can frame it.

Hi. I just started CBD oil about 10 days ago. Didn’t know about the 2 hours before or after meal. I gather you take pred with breakfast then wait 2 hours? I am up to 0.5 ml, twice a day with concentration of 25 mg/ml. I take a 1:1 CBD/THC at night to help sleep. Initial referral from rheum to provincially funded clinic. I was nervous at first about it but it seems to be going well. Glad you posted. I’m in Canada and didn’t know if anyone else was using it for pain.
Are there any risks/side effects? This is not legally available in the UK at the moment - the poor youngsters with status epilepticus required special dispensation from the health secretary to be treated with cannabis oil.. Is this the oil in its pure form?
The CBD oil I buy is not the same as the medical cannabis oil that the children with epilepsy are benefiting from. That has higher levels of THC in than the oil I take.
I now don't experience any side effects that I am aware of. Have tapered my dose to maximise the benefits whilst minimising the slightly 'hungover' I would feel the next day.
When you consider I was taking the equivalent to Cocodamol several times per week, Paracetamol daily and using various main relief oils topically I would suggest that any slight (if any) side effects of this natural substance far outweigh those of the pharmaceutical industry.
I'm taking Blue oil currently from CBD Brothers and this is what they say,
Blue Edition CBD Oil – 2000mg > 25% CBD – 5% Per 10ml (Sativa)
Rated 4.98 out of 5 based on 40 customer ratings(40 customer reviews)
£17.95 – £129.95
For this product we use a Hemp Sativa Whole Plant Extract > 25% CBD, extracted from female Hemp Sativa plants which were grown organically under the sun, only the buds/flowers are used for extracts of the highest quality. Diluted in Organic Hemp Seed Oil.
I was taking Green paste whole plant extract, good for pain but left me hungover the next day. I am awaiting my order of Purple paste which is also good for pain but will leave no hangover effect.
Very happy to have found these products and have far less pain to cope with on a day to day basis.
If you were taking co-codamol and paracetamol it looks like they were helping something other than PMR. It seems that whatever it is, is also helped by CBD oil.
Are you still taking cbd oil? Has It helped with your pain and do you think it has helped you to taper? I’ve been taking it for 3weeks, helping me with pain.
Hi! I am still taking CBD oil during the day and 1:1 CBD/THC at night. Helping with sleep for sure. Some benefits for pain but seem to be stuck at 10 mg of pred. Have tried to drop to 9 - that didn’t work and then 9.5 but pain and stiffness and headaches were too bad. I feel I need to sit at 10 mg of pred and stick with the CBD to support my body for awhile. See the rheumatologist this week and hopefully he supports that plan.
Hope this helps. Hope you are doing well with your taper and control of symptoms.
Hi I've been taking cbd oil for about 5 months 30mg health span,my pharmacist said it could interfere with prednisone so I stopped taking it,I'm waiting to see my GP to see what he says.Ive been struggling to get down from 10mg since last year,I'm down to 9mg,I sometimes feel I'm going backwards not forwards, I've had pmr for 3 years you make me think it's worth trying it again I only stopped last week.I get bad headaches and pain in my neck so thanks for your post.
Can't answer for CBD but food grade hemp oil (from seeds not leaves) is pleasant. Often the problem with these supplements is the addition of flavouring, natural or otherwise, in the mistaken belief it makes a substance more palatable. I recently bought some very expensive omega 3 from algae which has been flavoured with cranberry and orange and I find it vile. If it hadn't cost so much I'd be giving up. Surely unflavoured couldn't taste worse? Don't know if the omega 3 will help, but I have hopes. I believe my diet is very deficient in the right kind of omega 3 and allegedly the algae source is like other seafood. I've heard people complain about aloe vera, and the kind I took last year was fine, had its own natural slightly citrus taste, quite pleasant. Perhaps the kind people were complaining about was flavoured like my omega 3?
I take Blue oil from CBD Brothers. Its a real help to me. If you don't like the taste pop a small chocolate button under your tongue at the same time. It melts and combines with the oil so you don't notice it
The miracle drug that is CBD OR should I just say Marijuana lol. I agree w/ you that it is great for SO MANY things. I just wish they would legalize it here in South Carolina, US....
CBD has a particularly good reputation as it has been found effective in treating some interesting diseases, like intransigent epilepsy in children, and seems to be a good anti-inflammatory. Furthermore it has no psychotropic effects which appeals to many of us, although latest word seems to be it works better if there is a small amount of THC present.
Oddly, or perhaps not, I read a few years ago that CBD oil was being thrown away as a useless byproduct of the hemp industry (hemp also used for fibre) and now it costs a fortune for a few ml.
Yea it wouldn’t surprise me a bit especially considering how it was once thought of. Speaking of hemp, it’s ashamed that more land is not set aside for hemp fields since it can be used to make clothes, furniture, oils etc... & the material produced is softer & stronger than cotton or any man made fiber like polyester. Most importantly think of ALL the beautiful trees we could save. I actually have some Marijuana stock & it’s doing quite well....
I think in Acadia it was required of all farmers to plant a certain amount of hemp. The first record of hemp being planted was Port Royal, which I believe, although Quebecois will tell you otherwise, was the first permanent settlement in what was to become Canada.
Good idea to take CBD oil in the evening well away from other meds. It can make you slightly drowsy. My G.P. says it can't possibly hurt and may help. Have just started. On the whole, less stiffness and pain but did have a bad flare up on the the second day for a few hours,: almost as if the PMR was fighting back.
I haven't take CBD consistently for about 2 weeks. I was running low and couldn't afford to buy more and I was not well.
When I was taking it, I waited 2 hours after steroids and other meds and 6 hours between doses.
Depending on the plant your oil is derived from, you may feel drowsy or you may feel energised. Sativa can be energising and for some increase anxiety. Indica derived CBD products are better taken before bed.
I am currently not in much pain and hope to make it into new year when finances will allow me to buy some more.
