Just starting down to 6mg prednisone for my PMR. My daughter likes to do natural suppliments and just gave me a large jar of this stuff. I also take fish oil regularly and she gave me jar of Krill oil to use instead. Thoughts on this ?

I think some people do take some of the contents of the the chondriotin mix - never come across them all together before. Theoretically they should be OK but they are aimed at joint problems, PMR doesn't affect the joints but the soft tissue around the joints. Turmeric may be helpful in reducing the inflammation but it can have adverse effects too in the quantity you often find in supplements. Using it in cooking seems to be better tolerated and I know a few people who swear by it, together with ginger.
This is about krill oil and from a reliable source - you can use it to look up all the other stuff too.
If you have any problem with bruising the chances are these supplements may make it worse as they tend to increase bleeding times.
Personally I'm quite sceptical about supplements - especially ones that bang on about anti-oxidants. Oxidative species (as they are called) are not all bad - some fight diseases such as cancer so too much of a good thing becomes not a good thing.
My Rheumatologist told me not to waste my money on Glucosamine. I take evening primrose oil, fish oil, calcium, vitamin D and a multivitamin and minerals. I used to take Glucosamine but didn't notice any benefit. My GP is into ayervedic medicine and recommended turmeric and also Green Lipped musssel extract. I tried both but couldn't see any benefit.
Turmeric upsets my stomach in larger doses. I do use golden milk if I get any sort of cold or flu as it helps that.
The multivitamin and mineral is because of my IBS. The fish and evening primrose are for my joints.
All I can say when supplements are mentioned is that you suck it and see. My hubby takes Gingko Biloba but thought it wasn't working until he stopped taking it. He soon bought more as it lessened his headaches. I don't know if that was an actual response or a placebo but if it works..........
Hi there, I think a lot of these things seem to depend on personal experience. I have been managing my OA for around 30 years and took G/C in the early days. I found it did nothing to help me and as there was no information regarding its short or long term effects I stopped taking it. However, my sister who has mild OA has taken it for years. Not on any other supplements other than Vit D.
I have taken glucosamine (not chondroitin) since I was in my 40s and received an OA diagnosis. I only stopped when I was undiagnosed with PMR many years later because I thought it had stopped working. I started again after a little while on pred, and have taken it since. Considering I've had OA for about half my life I suppose it has helped, and I am not aware of any interaction with pred. I don't know anything about the other supplements you mention, although I do enjoy an evening cup of tea made with freshly grated ginger and think it did help me get through the night when PMR was more of a problem for me than it is now.
