So Far So Good Except !!

I seem to have settled into the DL slow taper regeme quite well, next week will be week 5 of taper 4.5 - 4.0 so I will be on 4mg Pred each day - providing I do not get too excited tomorrow watching England v Switzerland !!!!

The only thing that is not good is the pain in my right hand, I have mentioned this before as it is something I have had pretty much since diagnosed with PMR, April 2022.

The pain is getting worse to the point of being unbearable and restricting thigs I can do, does it follow that as we reduce Pred to lower levels, muscular pain will get proportionately worse? and has anybody any idea if this type of pain will go away if and when PMR goes away?

Many seem to develop carpel tunnel syndrome [CTS] alongside PMR - so perhaps get that checked… at higher doses it was probably masked.

There are loads of posts on CTS - so perhaps do a search on subject.

.. and please don’t get too excited tomorrow - my tapering plans haven’t necessarily factored that in..

although having seen the results and chat [although not the games ] not sure exciting is the word.. stressful yes! But enjoy anyway…

I’ll be watching the rugby rather than football…

There are some things a man can do however much pain he is in, and I can still hold a glass in both hands, these days it is more likely to be a wine glass rather than a beer glass, or one in each😉😉

I beleive it is called multy tasking

That’s a first then 😊

Ok I give in, I do only hold one glass at a time. 🥴 but will this pain ever go away? or do I need to have something stronger in the glass?

Maybe have a look at this re CTS -also includes some exercises that may help … but as I said it’s very often connected with PMR and at higher doses the pain may have been masked. Many wear a wrist supports- but you probably do need to see GP and be referred. Bcol has issues so have linked a recent post - you might want to look at his profile

Started writing this before DL's latest post popped up. I've posted a few times on my CTS. Initially I found going back up to 10.0mg sorted the problem ( during Covid so see earlier posts) and it didn't return until I got back down to 2.0mg or 3.0 mg. After Covid decided the best thing was surgery so saw doc and was reffered upwards, specialists decided no other tests were needed and I'm on the list for surgery on both hands/wrists. Supports/splints help and I'm finding that I'm wearing them during the day now as well as night time. I have severe muscle wastage on left hand. It's inflammation, like PMR so normal pain relief, OTC or prescribed has no effect. Big increase in Pred would probably help but wine/gin/rum your choice!!! You probably need to get to docs and get a proper diagnosis and work from there.
