I was so happy to be diagnosed, a few months ago, withPMR, after 2 years of pain, and find myself, blissfully, pain free, thanks to the wonder of Prednisalone...
Oh, but what a price to pay....
I took myself to A&E at the weekend because I was unable to walk due to the agony in my hip...
an x-ray later, a flattening of a bone in my hip, and other things I can’t remember was the outcome... probably due to the steroids!
I am taking a ton of codeine, & morphine, and I am mobile once again.... waiting to see a hip specialist, a physio and go to a Pain Clinic... which will, probably, not for a while due to NHS waiting lists...
at least the morphine is enabling me to feel a little Que serra Serra about it all...

Oh dear - hope it all turns out OK. If it is avascular necrosis I imagine it will be a hip replacement?
It's a real shame that having found some pain free time after 2 and a half years you now have something else to worry about. I have no idea about treatment etc but if it is a new hip there are several people who have had such surgery posting here. Hope things pick up. 🌻🌻
Personally I would be reluctant to lay this appalling luck all at Prednisalone’s door. As you’ve said yourself, you had unchecked pain and inflammation for two years. Other stuff happens unfortunately but a few months of Pred then this? I would be doubtful. Can’t believe I’m defending my nemesis.
I hope they get it sorted out soon. In the meantime, enjoy floating about on a pink cloud.
Unfortunately avascular necrosis is a rare but listed side effect from prednisone. Some one posted a couple of years ago on the Patient forum who developed this. She had never been on very high doses of pred, and it developed quite quickly. It's something to do with blood flow I believe.
I understand what you are saying, and I did not even consider that it could have been pred... however, looking at the possible causes, high dose steroids, even for a month can be the cause, and the other possibilities don't apply, like an injury etc...
So sorry that you have to deal with this as well. Do hope everything turns out well for you.
Had a "Birmingham hip" replacement 10 years ago & what wonderful relief from the pain. Mine developed quite quickly others have a different experience over time. They are very good nowadays with this operation & hopefully you will be up and walking about in 3/4 days. Wishing you all the best.
