Consultant decided to withhold information from laparoscopy :(

Hello lovelies. So, I have been having severe pelvic pain for 2 years and had lots of tests. In the summer i had a laparoscopy, which showed an enlarged uterus, query adenomyosis. That's all it said and that was sent to my gp.I had a scan previous to this that showed a large fibroid. When I queried this at the time I was told there wasn't one.

I've since had an mri which shows a multiple fibroid uterus. I changed consultants, as they were gaslighting me and making me think the pain was all in my head. My new consultant has fast tracked a hysterectomy next week.

The thing I am upset about is the old consultant has now admitted in a letter they did see the fibroids on laparoscopy but didn't report on them, as they don't believe it is the cause of my pain. I am devastated, as I now don't trust anything. Surely any findings should be documented.

Does anyone know where I stand and what action I can take.

I could really do without all this stress before a major operation

All I did was get ill but they have made me feel awful.

Thank you if you got this far xxx

Definitely file a complaint against consultant for with holding information. By right your gp & you yourself should get copy of any findings of tests results or procedures carried out by NHS..Ridiculous we have to pay private to get answers. I've just filed a complaint against my Gynecologist who lied about Pathology report and photos of stitches I had removed he advised no photos were taking yet I've now got copy of photos..I've lost complete trust in drs x

I’m sorry you’ve been lied to this is absolutely disgraceful! Who do they think they are to leave you suffering and not tell you what’s going on in your own body?

I’ve heard so many people saying similar experiences.

You have every right to take the legal route, most definitely! Each hospital has their own legal department. I’ve never taken legal route, although wish I had due to being treat similarly which resulted in the disease causing complete infertility and constant pain, but I have emailed the legal teams on a number of occasion to request copies of all medical records and also pen a written complaint at the same time.

I would start by doing this and then there are plenty of no win no fee legal companies who would take this further for you.

best wishes to you ❤️

I don’t know if I’d take the legal route or not because it would add to your stress levels and NHS has the best legal support so you’d need to find a very good “no win no fee” lawyer. But definitely you should lodge a formal complaint asap and make the consultant apologise in full. This is the very least you deserve for the awful medical gaslighting and negligence you’ve been put through.

There should be a feedback and complaints system in your health trust or health-board. Only by complaining and getting the complaint upheld and a formal apology will you be helping make sure that this consultant learns to tell the truth and better grasps the impact of their dishonesty and gaslighting ways on patients. Once you have the apology in writing from them then you can decide on next stage or whether this gives you some closure. I would start the complaint letter asap with dates and any written evidence you have or can obtain. . Best of luck with the hysterectomy and please try and focus on good healing in knowledge you have right on your side x

Hi, I can see you are based in the UK like me. I've had a similar issue, with things not being reported on an mri scan report done at St. George's Hospital in London. They told me that they use an external company for viewing the images and writing the report. I wonder if that could be the cause.. I am sorry to say that, but I don't trust the NHS anymore. I've had too many things gone wrong and I am almost disabled because a pelvic surgery done at Queen Charlotte and Chelsea Hospital. Surgeons and consultants tried to sweep everything under the carpet...For MRI scans I now go back home abroad, and I am considering a health insurance provider so I can go private for any other problem I might get in the future.

They do cover their backs, alot! outright lying to patient is wrong and deserves a careful complaint but do bear in mind they have the right to withhold any information that they deem unnecessary for the patient to know and that it will/may/could be detrimental to the patients general wellbeing -believing it will/may/could cause anxiety and do more harm than good.

Thank you for your replies. I just don't understand what I have done to be treated this way 😕 I need to get my surgery over and then I will be complaining. I just thought it was illegal to withhold information about your health/body. My worry is, what over info has been withheld?

Forget about wars and who is to blame and start taking care of your health now.

You have a fascial disorder so you should look for a physical therapist who knows how to do fascial manipulation and, even more importantly, who knows how to work with tecartherapy (look online). Believe me because I started in 2014 with this type of symptoms and only in 2020, February, I started to get better. Good luck

Well I'd have him as he didn't show duty of care and showed negligence. They just don't care!

it’s likely what they will never diagnose unless

You go to a urogynecologist: Interstitial Cystitis. I just made a long post with suggestions on another post a minute ago, but do this: query symptoms of Internstitial cystitis or Painful Bladder Syndrome. If it matches your physical symptoms, then google what foods and drinks to avoid to prevent bladder pain. If I could link my recent post, I would, but this is second best. If the symptoms match, keep a good journal (and don’t let anyone talk you into an ablation). And a cystoscopy is a diagnostic measure when other measures have been tried and failed. The first line of treatment is an antihistamine and pain meds NSAIDS and opioids or nerve blockers. Diet modification is best for the bladder, liver, tendons and such - all which are harmed by the prescriptions that don’t solve the cause of the pain.

If IC / PBS doesn’t match your experience and quitting acidying foods and increasing the fiber content of all your meals doesn’t help / elimination of any constipation, then I would say persist with GI, UroGyn, Urology (pending what you can access), Gyn and whomever else wants weigh in.
