I have just been diagnosed with multiple fibroids.
I am 51 and not sure whether going through the menopause or not yet. A few symptoms, but I am on the mirena coil, so dont have periods.
Anyway, I have an appointment to see the gynae, do they automatically do a biopsy to check whether the fibroids are cancerous? I know it is a tiny percentage that are, but you always worry you may be in that small minority!
I also have an ovarian cyst at the same time, so they are doing a CA125 test, though I only had one of these done in August, so hoping should be the same. I have had quite a few digestive issues, where they were unable to find anything wrong with me (camera down throat and up bum), and I am now wondering whether the digestive issues may be related to the multiple fibroids.
Thanks

hi, they will do an ultrasound scan and can tell then by the way they look whether they are cancerous or not. I was told fibroids aren’t cancerous but I didn’t understand that as had found conflicting information so I asked during my scan and the doctor told me. I thought they would need to do a biopsy but they don’t as can see from the scan that it’s non cancerous fibroid. It is different with cysts as they need to biopsy them to see, that is the info I was given anyway. Hope you are ok xx
Ok thanks, I have already had an internal ultrasound scan. I also have an ovarian cyst! I am going back for another ultrasound to check shortly to see whether the cyst is growing.
Hi, I recently had a 10cm fibroid removed (along with a few small ones inside my uterus) and it effected my digestive system no end. I had a hysterectomy 3 weeks ago and didn’t realise how much it was pressing on my bladder and obstructing my bowel therefore causing all sorts of issues. I’m 38 and so far have zero regrets of hysterectomy x
Thanks, I was wondering whether they are all connected. My doctor advised a hysterectomy, before I have even seen the gynae, so I am wondering how many fibroids I have etc. Thanks for the info x
I'm 51 and had my 9cm fibroid procedure to shrink it last year. I was very heavily bleeding non stop and it affected my bowels. I'm peri menopausal too. My understanding is that fibroids are not cancerous.
I'm now having lighter periods, thank goodness! Wishing you well xx
I had fibroid attached to my Uterus, 4 of them and also had a ovarian cyst they seem to go together for some reason. They are not cancerous just a lot of thick tissue.
It was the best thing I did getting a top (subtotal hysterectomy. My digestion improved my constipation improved and my big stomach went down. I'm 65 now this was in my late 40s
