I have a problem with urgency when there is faeces or wind in my rectum. It started when I was constipated and strained a lot and I think I must have damaged my pelvic floor. Kegels don't seem to help and if I do them too much it makes the problem worse.
I noticed that when I started on amitriptyline for shingles neuropathy that it stopped the urgency but when I stopped it the urgency returned.
I don't want to rely on pills or have surgery. I wondered if anyone else has had this problem?

hi guineapiggy i have a prolaspe bladder and i have a pressery ring in . i went through that urgentcy to do faeces id wake up in the morning soon as i got up with in half ahour or so id have the urgentcy to go and id feel slightly nausea and unwell . and soon as id been i felt more comfy then soon as i came out the toilet id have the urgentcy to go again . so i had a camra in there to see if there was something more goig on . came back ok . so i got my gyno to move the pressery ring further back as i think the ring could of been pressing on something and causing this problem since iv had it moved it as stoped i go toilet now ok .
Thank you. I had never heard of a pessary ring for a prolapse so it is something I can ask my doctor about, especially if it can stop the full rectum causing pressure on the bladder.
Hi there, it sounds like a rectocele, I had the same symptoms 6 months ago. It’s gradually getting better. I take a glass of prune juice every night and that makes my bowels move regularly in the morning. I also have been using the kegal 8 trainer at night and have been adding pelvic floor exercises during the day. I’ve only started to notice the difference now. It takes time xx
Thank you. I had wondered whether I had this. I had a ultrasound scan of my bladder and asked if anything else showed up but was told everything looked OK. I seem to poo alright and use vitamin c and magnesium if I have problems. I may need to ask my doctor for another test specifically to look for a rectocele. Thanks for your help.
There is a test called a Defecography that can determine if you have a rectocele or not. I had an ultrasound of the bladder and a flexible sigmoidoscopy, but it doesn’t show up on that. X
Thanks. I will but it may not be just yet. As I am on amitriptyline to calm the sensitivity of the bladder I am going to stay on them for a while to let the bladder really settle down and then stop them and see if the sensitivity has improved. At present I am also doing some kegels in conjunction with a course called Pelvic Core Restore which incorporates kegels with some exercise movements. I also am trying Mayan abdominal massage that is supposed to restore the position of prolapsed organs.
I posted the question so that I could get some feedback from others as to if it was something anyone else had problems with and some ideas as to what to try next if all the other stuff doesn't help.
