Specialist in Toronto, Canada?

I have seen so many doctors, gynaecologist, neurologist and pelvic floor therapist for my pelvic pain. After 2 years, I still have no diagnosis. Does anyone know anyone in Toronto who could give me a diagnosis so I could get on with appropriate treatment. I've been offered Gabapentin or Cymbalta but no one was able to tell me why. I would be so grateful.

If you dont mind me asking, where does it hurt exactly? There are a few kinds of pelvic pain you could have. But what i think the reason is for them offering you either gabapentin or cymbalta is because both of these meds work for neuropathic pain, which is probably the kind of pain the doctors think you have. Im really sorry im not in Toronto and thus cant help with a specialist, but i have pelvic pain myself and have tried both of those meds in the past. If you have any questions youd like to ask msg away! :)

Thank you for your help and support. I have pain in my buttocks and genital area, mostly towards perineum and anus. It's a constant aching pain but no stabbing, shooting pain. I had a pudendal nerve block but this actually made the pain worse. I really don't think the doctors I have seen know much. My pelvic floor therapist feels it is coming from my back. I had terrible side effects from Gabapentin so am nervous about trying Cymbalta.

So grateful for your help.

I am sorry to hear of your pain...I am not in Canada however I was misdiagnosed for a year and a half and stoped counting at 25 dr.’s I didn’t get the property diagnosis until I saw a pelvic pain specialist if you could find one in Canada that would be my suggestion...I have found an herbalist (I could not tolerate any of the drugs given to me) and I also have found yoga and meditation have helped me more then the dr.’s did the book by Amy Stein titled “Healing Pelvic Pain” and the yoga cd by Dustine Miller for pelvic pain has helped me I hope this helps

Thank you for your help and support. I am really looking for a pelvic pain specialist in Toronto because as you said, they will be able to diagnose me correctly. Did you see someone in the UK?I just got Amy Stein's book on Kindle and will look for the Yoga CD that you mentioned. Thank you so much.

that book is a good guide. I have similar pain. Massage, stretches, yoga, cognitive therapy all help.

Thank you for your support. Did you have side effects with Cymbalta?

Hi I am a male so obviously different-but chronic pelvic pain without a discernible cause is often a common problem. I took Cymbalta for 3 or 4 months. It does have an effect on brain chemistry and the perception of pain- it is not a pain killer. I did improve greatly during that period and weaned off the drug quickly without any problem. It had sexual side effects for me which made me basically incapable. That is how I know it really affects the nervous system. All functions returned within a week of cessation. It was worth doing for me as I suffered daily-all day- from pelvic discomfort diagnosed as levator syndrome. Best wishes!

Thank you so much for your help and support. I'm happy to hear that you have been successful in managing your pelvic pain. I am encouraged that Cymbalta, despite the side effect, did help you.
