I’m surprised a search just turned up no results for this procedure. Maybe there’s another name for it? It’s where they fill the uterus with saline before performing an ultrasound. My doctor claims it’s not painful, that you might just get some cramping, but I’d like to hear from women who have actually had this procedure.

Sonohysterogram? Anyone had this?
Hi,
The type of tests a patient is referred for depends on symptoms, conditions suspected by the referring doctor and any previous tests carried out. It also depends on the preference of the doctor. If a patient is going in for a laparoscopy to identify and remove endometriosis then the gynaecologist will very often carry out a hysteroscopy which also looks inside the womb. It’s one of the few tests that I haven’t had done myself so I can’t speak from experience. I have had a hysteroscopy three times over the years and carried out under GA as it was combined with endometriosis surgery. I did find I was in pain afterwards so kept up with the pain killers. You could try ringing the hospital where it’s being carried out and asking if you should take pain medications before the procedure especially if it’s being carried out in an outpatient clinic. I hope this helps
