I'm asking on behalf of my Mum, she has severe wind both ends, discomfort down below, difficulty passing stools and also the need to urinate small amounts, constant pressure and discomfort in her pelvic area and back. All blood tests, water and stool samples have come back ok. Doctor says nothing wrong with her ! Any help or ideas would be appreciated, she is not sleeping well, and is on medication for the wind and medication for her constipation. I am thinking this maybe down to a pelvic floor injury from lifting heavy furniture. I feel helpless and just want to get her sorted.
Pelvic pain.: I'm asking on behalf of... - Pelvic Pain Suppo...
Pelvic pain.
I’d first address her intestinal issues. Constipation can cause a myriad of problems.
Make sure she’s eating greens, fruits, and fermented food and drink. A good start is kombucha. ( fermented tea ) Kefir is a great gut healer to.
Perhaps stop cow milk/ cream and try almond milk instead.
Is she taking a vitamin D supplement. I’d advise she do so.
She may have torn a muscle in her hip and have a labral tear. She may have overused a ligament and it’s abutting with nerves. Is the pain burning or electrocuting?
One of the symptoms of interstitial cystitis is frequent urination. The doctor needs to rule that out. She should see a urologist.
A physiotherapist might be able to assess her pelvic floor. Anxiety from her present condition might cause pelvic floor muscles to tighten and/ or spasm. Magnesium supplements will help spasms.
What medications is she taking?
An MRI may be needed.
Thanks for the info, she is on tablets to help with the wind although they don't appear to help, laxatives to help with her stools as the wind tablets cause constipation together with gaviscon. She does have a good diet with plenty of vegetables. One doctor said she had a slight prolapse but nothing to worry about. They just seem to have washed their hands with her and she has been the same for 3 months.
Check her urine in case uti ask Dr to do this also then get her to have a referral colorectal surgeon for her bowels don't ignore your mum symptoms she has a problem that needs attention poor thing just go with her to the doctors and request to have both done if he doesn't he is arrogant and not looking to address her symptoms then go to another doctor they will see to her . my love to you both don't give up mum needs pain relief as well so try this you will get answers. also, her prolapse could very well be the main problem so have her see a gynecologist too both require you to say you want referral they will and then you will be in the right hands GPs are not trained in areas of this,
Thank you very much for your advice and good wishes. Ended up in hospital last night as pain was so bad, been with her to the doctors today and she has been referred for an urgent scan and a colonoscopy, but due to the current situation may take a while. Hopefully getting some answers soon.
Keep us informed. You’re her only advocate. Doctors often don’t take women seriously. Good luck.
Just to let you know, mom had a ultrasound scan which didn't show up much other than a load of wind in her stomach, her blood tests for her ovaries and calcium levels came back ok. She is still suffering from excessive wind/belching which keeps her awake through the night. At a loss what to do. Waiting now for an appointment for a camera. Just don't seem to be getting any closer to sorting this out.
I really hope you can figure this out. She needs her sleep.
Perhaps a colonoscopy is needed?
She may have diverticulitis, or SIBO( small intestinal bowel overgrowth )
A natural anti anxiety I recommend is Pascoflaire. It’s made from Passion flowers and it’s found in most health food stores including Holland and Barrett.
Thanks for your reply and advice, she is waiting for the colonoscopy but unsure how long that will be ! She now has a fissure in her anus which is very painfull, together with the belching, not good ! Doctor has told her to continue with the laxatives.
Sounds like I have similar symtoms. Have been like this for a couple of years just hoping it would all go away and I can feel normal again. Telephoned the doctor lately again and he has put me on 25mg of Nitrofuraton for a month for cystitis which is current and frequent used to have uti's too. This helps the cronic burning pain and problems urinating. Bowels seem to be a problem too now and yes wind and bloating. Tried gluten free foods last year and that helped but made constipation worse. Doctor has had me send off a poo sample too to check for blood. Don't suspect any.
I have been to a gynaecologist too but she said theres nothing wrong with my pelvic floor etc. So wrong department then as was physiology.
Need to see a urinologist and colonoscopy done perhaps. Sick of feeling this way everyday so your Mum has my sympathy.
Supposed to take estrogen too. Sometimes do. I've tried everything.
I also have confirmed severe arthritis in my hips. Makes walking difficult but more so when I have this often burning pain down below too. I ended up in hospital A & E one night too the pain was so bad. Pain killers simply don't work. Got Nitrofuraton again have a standby supply the doctor gave me. I also take D-Mannose and lemon juice and honey drink to neutralise foods as too much acidity is bad. (Sweetcures) recommended by a lady doctor last year. Stop coffee and tea too they say. Don't drink anything late evening or before going to bed helps.
Thank you for your reply, I'm so sorry you have been suffering so long! Mom's stool sample came back negative so that's a relief, she has a scan on Tuesday for her pelvic area and has been referred for a camera. Been told to stop the medication for her wind and told to try buscopan. She is convinced its down to anxiety brought on from losing her dog. She has no burning pain but such a build up of wind and then pressure down below, which then puts pressure on her bladder and bowel and then pain in her back. I do wish you well and hope you get some normality back soon.
Thanks think you are one step ahead of me . Due to covid theres no examinations being done in that area just now doctor says and he's away for a couple of weeks.
Antibiotic helping for now.
I have burning, not from urination but from vaginal atrophy, bloody awful thing I had never heard of and despite several examinations no GP picked up on it, and it was the third gynaecologist I saw that diagnosed it. Have to take vagifem every day indefinitely.
I sympathise with yr mum for nearly two years have had blood tests all came back clear . Have had scans , CT private revealed nothing .
Bloating nausea basically feeling not right . Doctor says nothing wrong with me . Have now insisted to see a gynaecologist or urologist .
Since then doctor has said I have a bladder prolapse . Am up peeing 4 times a night . Can continue like this so hope to have operation .
Thank you for your reply, I do hope you can get sorted soon. I'm hoping my mum can get the colonoscopy done soon!
Will let you know outcome
Pudendal Neuralgia caused me to have bowel and bladder issues.
Because I couldn't feel anything, I would urinate in small amounts, as if I had a UTI.
I also had bowel issues as my condition worsened, because I was numb, inside and outside.
Thank you for your reply, I hope you are sorted now? Just such a mine field really, so many different things that could be wrong.
I'm much better now than I was 5 years ago, however I'm not back to normal or what would be normal for me.
It seems like it took forever for me to get diagnosed but it really didn't take that long thanks to my sister Googling my symptoms. I started having symptoms of pudendal neuralgia in September of 2015. I was finally diagnosed in late December early January of 2016.
It's definitely a situation of advocating for yourself when it comes to a diagnosis. I ended up switching primary care physicians because of it. My PCP acted like I shouldn't be complaining because after all I had just turned 50, and things go to hell in a handbasket anyway which is bullshit.
I've been doing lots of searching on Google and to be honest it could be lots of things, it does seem the doctors are finally listening now though. Just hoping she doesn't need to wait too long for the camera.
Did your Mum get sorted in the end?
