Hi, I’ve had tests and unsuccessful treatment for what I thought was coccyx pain . For some years now I’ve been unable to have a natural bowel movement without using suppositories and sometimes laxatives. My diet is good, I drink plenty of water, so I was wondering if anyone else had similar problem and how are they tackling it. It makes days out and travel very difficult.

Long term bowel problems
There is another person I am speaking with who has this issue and my pt told me of one of her patients going through this...have you tried Botox?what does your doc say it is?I have had pain with/after bowel movements and I go through days of being ok then I get a difficult bowel movement even after stool softeners and then I hurt for a day or so...I am on muscle relaxers which have helped ...may get Botox at some point
My doctors have no idea what the matter is and just give stool softeners. I haven’t been offered Botox but have heard about the procedure. Have you heard of what the success rate is ?
It's called tenesmus... I will ask my physical therapist about it tomorrow and get back to you also...I'm talking to two people who got Botox because of this and similar reasons and I will let you know what the outcome for them ....if you want to communicate My email is mbhs21@gmail.com...my name is Audrey🙂
Thank you Audrey it’s good to hear from someone who understands the problem
Oh I was just sitting up late at night here in Arizona about ready to go to bed and I checked my emails and Saw your message ...I had been wanting to ask you if you have pain with bowel movements anf afterwards which is what I have had a lot , especially if it's stuck in that first part of the rectal area and can't move one of the other ladies I'm speaking with has the same thing.... She is on cymbalta which has helped her a lot and I am on the cyclobenzaprine both muscle relaxers and calm nerves
Hi there, I have had severe bowel issues for years accumulating about 5years ago with a haemmorage from my colon. Had a LOT!!!!! Of unpleasant tests which showed I have neuronal intestinal dysplasia (slow transit bowel). I have little to no sensation in rectum and muscles severely affected which means I cannot push. Have tried every kind of stool softeners even the ones they give you before surgery and NONE!!!! Work. I have been seeing my specialist physio for about 4years and she does trigger point manipulation which does releive severe spasms in levator and pubirectalis muscles which helps along with botox injections. Like yourself I have a very healthy diet and good fluid intake. My condition is also compromised with bowel, bladder, pelvic and abdominal adhesions. GOOD NEWS!!!! I am being supported with my specialist in using daily irrigation treatment and manual extraction. Not pleasant but it has become a daily routine. Going out and about is frustrating I have to carry pads and equipment everywhere I go. Sometimes my bowel spasms are so severe I can't leave the house. HOWEVER!! I make full use of my good days and recommend retail therapy to release those pleasure endorphins!! Don't give up regarding diagnoses we know our bodies better than anyone, I had to change hospitals and consultants to finally get help.(NHS) wish you well and if you ever need a chat I'm good at listening!
I eat a fig With plain yoghurt mixed with two dessert spoons of crushed seed mix that you can buy in Tesco’s and another fig during the day if Im not having veggie soup. Vegetables are excellent for softening the stools . Take 4 carrots, 3 leeks, a good handful of frozen broad beans. Chop and cover with water, add a knorr stock Cube, (gluten free) cook 30 mins. if you have some cream fraise add two dessert spoons, stir. If you want to thicken add a dessert spoon of corn flour, mix with little bit cold water first, and stir into soup, but soup tastes good without thickening.
This will make 3 - 4 servings of soup. Store in fridge. It’s a delicious meal and can be eaten with FRO biscuits (Tesco’s) containing seeds including linseed and others so it’s all very good for your nutritional input too. And if working you can take soup in a thermos for your lunch.
