Fed up....

I have been experiencing stinging/burning in my vulval area for the last 6 months or so. When i go see my G.P they assume its a urine infection and i have to do a sample which comes back negative. It doesn't hurt to pee but stings around the outside after i pee. I don't always empty my bladder on the first attempt either and often sit there for 10 minutes just waiting for more to come. Its uncomfortable to sit or ride a bike. I always wash using Aqueous cream, wear white cotton underwear and wash my clothes with unperfumed and sensitive washing detergent. I can go a couple of weeks and have no symptoms what so ever then wham its back making me miserable again. As far as i can understand it all started after i had an actual urnine infection. I was given antibiotics for several days which cleared the infection but gave me a bad bout of thrush which i also needed treatment for. It hasn't really gone since then. I'm at my wits end now, its making me miserable and causing a strain on my marriage. I have researched endless articles and the one thing that stands out is Vulvadonia. Someone please help....

Thats how my symptoms started after epidural injection. The injections aggravated my pudental nerve. I had itching and burning not only around urethra but all over my genitalia. I also had a lot of pain in pelvic floor muscles. The last set of injections made everything worse. I should have never had the 3rd ser. Anyway, I saw “leaf of faith” on Netflix. I was desperate and in pain again. I had tried pills, therapy, injections, cbd THC products. The cbd and THC worked for a while but then I got worse. So this time I tried Kratom red vein. It worked for my pain and sleep. Omg I am in heaven. Watch the documentRy and you decide if you want to try it. All I am saying is it worked for me.

Boots2008 I just saw that documentary last week. I have had chronic neuropathic pain for 8 1/2 yrs. looking for Kratom to try hit in Canada and can’t find anything. Also tried online but no success yet. Do you have any ideas where I could purchase some?

It may be that the UTI was never completely cleared. The tests used by GPS are extremely inaccurate. There are a lot of studies which show this. I’d suggest seeing Professor Malone Lee just to find out if you definitely have no UTI. I have chronic pain also. I’d advice not waiting for your GP to take action but to request testing and referrals. Ask to see a urogynecologist. Also, ask for a referral to a pain management clinic. It also might help you to eat foods which will lessen the acidity of your urine. Coffee and alcohol as well as things like vinegar, chocolate, tomatoes etc are all not a good idea if it is in fact urinary. Stay positive and keep looking for answers xx

I just googled an article about Malone-Lee and I see he recommends use of high doses of antibiotics - if the underlying problem is fungal rather than bacterial that would be the worst possible thing you could do. I have been devastated by erythromicin and doxycycline, they just wiped out my gut bacteria and left me wide open to terrible bowel/urinary infections which are fungal in nature.

NHS practice in this area is hopelessly backward - I kept asking for a test for yeast infection in my urine, only to be repeatedly told they don't do those - yet I know from googling and an online consultation or two that they do these in the USA.

I should say that although I'm male, I recognise the symptoms in terms of hot urination resulting in burning discomfort in the scrotum.

Avoiding alcohol is good advice, unfortunately - as would be going on a candida diet.

Eventually - after consulting several alternative practitioners - I sent a urine sample off to the Great Plains Lab USA, which found that I had markers for very high levels of urinary yeast infection - which explained what was going on with me, and it all made complete sense. Basically what they recommended is anti-candida diet plus prescription anti-fungal drugs or natural supplements - like oregano, caprylic acid that kind of thing

I took this test result to my GP, and he was just dismissive, hopeless - without coming up with any credible alternative. I was seriously unimpressed

It sounds like a yeast/fungus infection - probably set off by antibiotics, which kill good bacteria and create an imbalance, leaving the way open for Candida infection. That you get thrush infections after taking antibiotics is a dead giveaway

GP's are absolutely useless - you can go round in circles with tests for bacteria which turn out to be negative every time, not surprisingly as it is a fungal infection. Don't take antibiotics as this will only make things much worse.

I would suggest checking out the online videos of New Zealand naturopath Eric Bakker who will advise on diet/supplement approaches. Nutritionists in the UK are worth consulting. You can get an organic acid test from the USA which indicates yeast/fungus overgrowth in urine.

In terms of prescription drugs the anti-fungal fluconazole might be one way to go, studies online I've seen indicate that it is the best drug for killing yeast in urine.

It is a very difficult area, but it should be possible to make significant improvements

I would also recommend seeing a urogynecologist. Mine has really helped me. I have vulvodynia(have had it for 11 years!) and your story sounds very familiar. My problems all started with utis then feeling like I still had uti but didn't. It took me 11 years to find the correct doctor (urogynecologist) and now I see a pelvic pain therapist that has helped me tremendously. I truly hope it is just a uti or yeast infection because those can be cured but if not take my advice. I saw urologists, pain specialists, GPs, and even pelvic pain specialists but only got relief from opiods (which my body became addicted to and I had to go through terrible withdrawals to get off of them). I hope you can find some relief soon. Will be praying for you. Let us know what you find out.

Would it be worth trying Thrush cream / treatment again?

Have you considered a self referal to the Continence Adviser? May get some help from her? This could also be a short cut to a Gynaecologist or Urologist or Urogynaecologist as she could refer you?

I can totally relate to your frustration! I struggled for 2 months earlier this year with back-to-back infections and negative UTI results. The one thing that has seriously changed my life is a supplement called Florajen. It’s a probiotic and it replaces the lost “good bacteria.” My doc said t was okay to insert it vaginally. And that cleared everything up after I went through the anti-biotic treatment. Whenever I feel there is something that may come up, I put one in! It’s a bit pricey but it’s a lifesaver. It helps my gut too. Just be careful not to use it too much because it can dry everything up.

Hi, I just wondered if you have managed to successfully treat your condition? My symptoms and experience sound exactly the same as yours, triggered by antibiotics (nitrofurantoin). Any information would be helpful. Many thanks.
