Hi i had a nerve block, and to be honest with you it done nothing.

My daughter in law has had a few and she said the longest one lasted 3 days. So I think that's an awful lot of money, without any guarantee.

I know the feeling. Chronic pain is awful and especially if nerves are involved.

I forget....what are your primary symptoms and thus why the nerve block?

Can you sit pain free? Are you able to bend over your groin. Can you lift things without aggravating the pain? Are you incontinent with urine or stool?

I have had seven nerve blocks so I know what to expect. ( some failed and some worked ).

Hi there once again,My symptoms are Prudendal Pain. I personally don't want a nerve block just for a bit of relief, because I feel you in a way learn to cope with pain ( if possible) and if you just get something temporary ,when the pain returns it just would feel harder to handle.

And no I can't sit for long,so just to watch evening TV,is painful, with plus your bodies running down,so misery, and tears usually start.

But with the help of a sleeping tablet, I have no problem sleeping at bedtime. I do hope your getting some relief now. If I remember rightly you were moving last time we spoke, hope your now settled.

PS. My pain specialist has now told me he can do no more for me.😥

So, are you seeking the treatment of another pain specialist or do you feel ‘ stuck’?

We haven’t moved yet.

in reply to Konagirl60

No I'm not seeking another specialist yet. I'm seeing a Physiotherapist who I have some faith in.

I believe iveseen the best specialist we've got in Dr DeMellow, and I have an appointment with a gastroentrologist who works with Dr DeMellow in November,so I'll wait until then, and take it from there.

To be perfectly honest withyou I think it's something I'll have to live with,to my dieting day, after all these years. And an operation is out of the question first because I think they make things worse, and second because I have age and to many other health issues against me.

My decompression surgery saved my life. My body cannot tolerate opiates and I do not like taking medications. I am so glad my neuralgia is somewhat controlled with meds and legal cannabis products. ( no vaping though ).

Good luck with the physiotherapy

Hi,

I had a pelvic nerve block earlier this year and it lasted 2 days. Everyone is different though some people get relief for between 3-6 months. Xx

in reply to livvi_livvi

Hi I can't really see the point, just to have it come back. Especially the lady above. It will cost her a fortune to have to keep repeating it.

My consultant explained that if they work they are good and would be repeated but if they dont they wouldnt. Personally I wouldnt go through it again its not worth it and is mentally worse than just being in pain constantly. X

I’ve had nerve block injections twice and each time the results lasted about 5 months. I wasn’t pain free but much improved. I’ve recently had denervation, similar procedure but a current is passed through the needle to temporarily kill the nerve. The results are excellent and can last about 12 months. I no longer need any pain killers and am able to do physio comfortably.

There are various types of nerve blocks for pelvic pain. The one I had 6/2018, took two weeks to work, which is unheard of. However, it left me pain free for a month. I was even able to go to the gym 3 days a week! (First time being able to be active since early 2013!) Now, I am typing this, unable to sleep, with two heating pads. However, I am in mild discomfort. Before the nerve block, I would start to go into shock from the pain where my muscles would tense up so badly, I couldn’t move, and I would start getting a blackening tunnel vision. It made me sick to my stomach, and my pain tolerance is of a superhero. It was pain much much worse than an obstructing kidney stone, which occurred every single night, allllll night long, with a couple flare ups during the day. For me, it was 100% worth it in every way. I don’t mind that I’m not totally pain free, because it feels like nothing compared to before! It’s a total gamble how it’ll work for each person.

Thank you to all of you for your responses. Even a physiotherapist who administered them for a living has steered me off them. He said after having them himself they are not a long term solution.

He referred me to a womans physio and she is working on me and recommended physio based pilates.

Im 3 weeks into the exercises she recommemded but Im doing them in pain so half heartedly.

I dont know if they are helping my "mechanical stiffness"...Im waking up sore and stiff every day..

Thank you.

Helly.
