Hello, so probably about a month ago I was diagnosed with PID, as many people know this is usually most of the time caused by an STD, I did not have any STD cause I was tested and all results came in negative, however my doctor said you can also get PID because of harmless bacteria that lives in our vaginas.
I eventually got treated for it (with the antibiotics) and felt better, now I asked the doctor if my partner should be treated and he said no, but as I was reading in different articles in the internet most of them say that partners should be treated as well, so I’m very confused and I’m scared cause I don’t want to get that again, it was painful! I’m not quite sure why the doctor said no, can somebody give me their point of view or explain that to me? Also in the different articles, it says that sometimes men carry a bacteria that causes PID but what is that bacteria?
I believe that the partner only gets treated if the cause of PID was an STI. This is probably why your doctor said that your partner doesn't need to be treated.
How did they discover the PID if you don't me asking? I have been experiencing many symptoms but the doctors have done swabs for me which ruled out STIs and unusual bacteria.
Well, I had few symptoms most of which where pain during intercourse, and pain in my pelvic area also shooting pain on my hips, then they did a pelvic exam (the doctor could tell there was inflammation) and the exam was painful itself when it shouldn’t have been cause it’s usually just discomfort and he noticed, then he proceed to do a ultrasound which showed inflammation and he also said that women on the inside have veins and that mine were visible inflamed which shows sign of infection. There’s many signs, sometimes it won’t show on swabs but you could have signs in some other ways, if you have the feeling you have PID you could discuss it with your doctor.
I have been begging doctors to believe me I have PID but since I don’t have an STI they won’t beleive me. Everyday I’m scared it will be my last. Can you please tell me the location and name of your doctor?
It’s sad that they do not believe you, you have the right to seek for other opinion usually they ones who tend to be more aware of this are gyn, mine thank god was well prepared, my gyn name is Felix Cohen and is here in NY. Are you from NY? If not, you can always go to different gyn there must be someone who’s well educated on the topic.
Keep on searching for a doctor, a gyn or your PCP should be hearing you, don’t give up! if you feel like something is wrong keep on insisting!
Im having the exact same issue 3 years on. Ive been to a & e twice in the first year and got more antibiotics. I had a lap done and they found loads of fluid floating around my pelvis and sent me on my way with more antibiotics. Every day im in pain in my pelvis, lots of discharge, burning vulva, swollen abdomen to the point i look pregnant but because swabs come back clear they dont believe i have PID. Ive been told its not possible to have it that length of time. All the gynae suggests is hysterectomy which is ludicrous. At the moment they are putting me through menopause to see if it stops the pain but actually its worse. The only thing that stops every single symptom for me is metronidazole for vaginal bacterial infections, im pain free everywhere, my stomach goes flat, burning down below stops but yet they tell me its not possible and i feel lost as im at the mercy of these people that are only willing to follow their textbooks!
Thats great to hear its helped. I lead a very healthy lifestyle, eat very little sugar, drink lots and lots of water and take probiotics but its all in vain.
Yes constant pain. Sometimes I wish I could get on disability for it because it makes it very hard to go to work everyday and some days even hard to get the motivation to get outta bed or do everyday things.
