Can acupuncture help pudendal pain?

Hello, I’m new to this forum. I’ve had pudendal neuralgia since 2003. I had a repair op to the rectocele in 2007 which sadly made it worse. I’ve been on Pregabalin & Nortriptyline at various doses since then. I managed to get it manageable to get out and about but since Christmas I encountered a bad period where the bowel stopped working. I have now got this going again in a regular pattern, still painful after but it’s working (Resolor + stool softeners). Trying to walk out a bit as travelling is tricky at present - but I’m wondering if acupuncture could help the pain? I am an MS patient, diagnosed 2012, possibly 20/22 years standing. Still mobile but finding this hard as also have SP catheter to manage. Seen a specialist who confirms possible childbirth & operational causes from years ago - seeing another he recommended & hoping he can suggest something. Had Pudendal blocks in 2009/10 which did help & SI joint denervations previously. So I guess it may be that the Resolor has restored function and that’s now causing the pain which will improve. It is so easy to blame everything on the MS tag but I’m not so sure this is the total answer. May try acupuncture and report back if it helps. Also Botox injections have been mentioned. So too a colostomy if the bowel did not behave - a bit confused which path to take but not surgery unless a last resort. I already have a c-scar. Sorry if this is long but a complex history.

I have had a ton of acupuncture. Km style or Apm style are better in my opinion to classical or traditional Chinese style.

Acupuncture for me has benefits. The calming points alone give me a few hours where it benefits me. For Pudendal pain I don’t believe it can hurt. I don’t believe it can make anything worse from acupuncture itself.

If pain is in the tissue and you legally find a practitioner who can needle the path and release surrounding tension I believe it could help based on what is causing the pain.

My advice is find a Km or Apm style practitioner and give it 3-4 sessions before deciding if there is benefit.

Acupuncture can help with allergies, energy and supportive functions a lot when you’re in pain and going through other things.

Keep me posted and good luck!
