Blood results.

Hi All,This is a long shot ,but could anyone tell me where on line could I get some blood results read. I have made an appointment with my GP, but that's not until next Tuesday, and it's worrying me. I've had 5 blood tests in the last month, and no ones telling me why. Is there a chart where I could check them myself???

Labtestsonline site will explain what the tests are for but not read your actual results. Have you posted them on here to see if anyone can help.

Thank you bantam.

If you have the results and normal reference ranges in brackets you could - type them in a post on here or/and Google search each one individually. If searching on line just put for exampe: low MCHC (mine was and GP comment was Full Blood Count retest in 6 weeks ). It means an Anemia. I do have Folate deficient Anemia which is being treated and low (bottom of the range ) Ferritin which is not. So I am waiting till I see my Consultant and will say that I would like everything addressed.

The thing is - some out of range results do not actually point to a specific condition eg CRP and ESR are inflammation markers and could mean inflammation and/or infection somewhere. If , however results are in the hundreds and you have very worrying symptoms you could phone your GP.

If you have had Thyroid blood tests then post them on Thyroid forum. If Liver - post on Liver forum etc.

You could also pop a short letter into your practice asking GP to give you an explanation. Not sure if you'd have an answer before your appointment though!

Sometimes they do blood tests to rule out possibilities.

Are there any comments added? By Lab or GP? Any asterisks or HIGH or LOW comments along side a result?

Thank you Mary, I would put my results up, but I can't see how to do it.

You don't need to put a photo on - I don't know how to do that either.

Just write them in a reply for example -

TSH 5.3 ( 0.30 - 4.65)

MCHC 26 (27.8 - 35.00)

Also copy any comments.

These figures aren't accurate - just showing you how to type in.

If these examples were true then they would maybe have an * by the first number or HIGH written after TSH result and range - and LOW after MCHC or both.

Did you have Vitamin D tested? That looks confusing to understand sometimes. Just write in what you can.

If you are feeling unwell and have several out-of-range results then I would phone the GP and ask for telephone appointment or make urgent same day appoinment in the morning.

In our practice, if we go and queue between 8am and 8.30am, we usually secure a same day appoinment.

Thank you Mary,I took your advice and joined. The kidney forum. Yes I had my vit D tested it was Vit D total 66.8

VitD D3 60.1 VitD D2 6.7. Then underneath that it has.

<15 nmol/L Severer Deficiency 15-30nmol/L Deficiency

VitD interpretation <30-50nmol/L. Insufficiency <50-250nmol L Adequate Status. <250 nmol/L Potential Toxicity.

So to me looks bad, but there again I don't know.

bantam12 in reply to

It's the total vitd result you need to look at and 66.8 is Adequate so nothing to worry about.

What questions do you have about kidney problems ? My husband has lots of knowledge about that as he has kidney disease.

in reply to bantam12

Hi,Bantam, thanks for your help. Now as I've said,I'm not sure if this is right or not, could be kidneys ,could be liver,I don't completely understand blood results. But I know something's wrong,by the way I feel, and GP asking for all these blood tests.

What would be the letters for testing kidneys?

Would that be CKD3A and CKD3B for example.

Or the EGFR.

bantam12 profile image
bantam12 in reply to

EGFR is a calculation for how the kidneys are functioning based on other tests, CKD stands for chronic kidney disease and the number 3a and b indicate the stages so your GP might refer you to a Nephrologist who will monitor your levels and possibly send you to see a dietician who will go through diet and advise what you can do to prevent kidney function deteriorating.

A lot of things can affect kidney function such as high blood pressure, to much salt and low T3 are just a few, it's all a bit complicated so be guided by your doctor.

in reply to bantam12

Thank you Bantam, you've been a great help. I do now see why all the blood tests. I keep being told oh we will wait and watch, but now I have an idea,no I'm not going to wait and watch. Thanks. Take care.

Why do you think it looks bad? It's much better than mine. Mine was a lot lower so I was prescribed Vitamin D tablets.

Your Vitamin D total was 66.8 and the Adequate Status range is 50 to 250. So your Vitamin D is in the normal range. You could ask your GP if you should have a supplement to bring it up a bit more.

The other ranges are:

Severe Deficiency : under 15

Deficiency : 15 to 30

Insufficiency : 30 to 50

Too high & Potentially harmful: over 250.

I haven't seen results quite like these where Vit D3 & Vit D2 are shown separately. Only the total Vitamin D level.

I see you didn't get any detailed replies on Kidney Forum. Sorry about that, worth a try. But no one on here can diagnose.

If you don't want to wait till Tuesday why not speak to speak to your GP tomorrow - put your mind at rest?

Are you on regular Naproxen or Ibuprofen or any other NSAIDS for your pain /inflammation?

You could Google search CKD2 and CKD3 or try the other link you were given or just wait to speak to GP?

Did you have any Thyroid tests or any other Vitamin levels tested?

My 4th reply on this thread

Gemini, I know you said you've had lots of tests. But, how long ago was your last upper-abdo Ultrasound scan? I know you had your Gallbladder removed, but your kidneys and liver would be checked on that scan.

When did you last see have any Pelvic Ultrasound or other scans?

Prior to September 2017 my last Barium Swallow was in 2011. The first one revealed a couple of conditions. But on 15 September 2017 - two more conditions were revealed! Thankfully, they are all benign, though can be troublesome.

xx

Mary firstly I can't understand why you seem to be so sarcastic, like "My 4th Reply on this thread" I'm asking for advice but if you don't wish to answer fine. It would also be nice if you tried to speak to people with a little empathy. People are on forums like this because they have a worry,so just try and be a bit more empathetic.

You say you don't understand why I'm worried, well when a GP and consultant asks for 4 blood tests in less than a month, and I'm not feeling to well,I think that's enough to worry about. But as it stands now,I'm waiting until Tuesday to question my GP. Ok.

Gemini

I wasn't being sarcastic. I was trying to help you.

You hadn't yet responded to my earlier replies so it was just for you to know that there were others so that you didn't miss them.

Sometimes I don't get all the notifications and miss a reply that I'd wished I'd seen at the time.

I did not say that I did not understand why you are worried. In fact, I suggested contacting your GP today.

I did mention that Vitamin D results can look confusing. And - you did say :

" So to me looks bad . . . . "

I thought I could put your mind at rest about that one, at least, and didn't know if you'd seen the reply yet.

I hope you get a proper diagnosis and appropriate specialist referals.

You have a right to ask for a diagnosis. You can ask for a Specialist referal.

I try to help people on here because I suffered and fought for years to get diagnosed. Like many others.

Hi Gemini,

If there was anything urgent the GP would have received a phone call from the lab and you would have been asked to either come straight into the surgery or go straight to the hospital to be seen. Sometimes results can come through as abnormal either due to a virus or something such as having your period. Because of this GPs will often want or after a phone call to a specialist be told to carry out another test within a few weeks. It maybe that your tests are completely normal either if your results are only slightly out of the normal reference ranges. Confusingly different labs use different reference ranges or different measures ie mmol or mg/l. This often makes finding reference ranges a little confusing and can often create panic when there is often nothing to worry about. It also highlights why doctor google isn’t the best reference to use when feeling unwell. I know it is hard but try not to worry as this won’t help you or your blood pressure. If you are really worried you could on Monday ask for a telephone consultation which may not be with the doctor of your choice.

I don’t think Mary was intentionally being sarcastic but sometimes tone of a post can be difficult online. Again try not to worry as I’m sure whatever the tests reveal or don’t reveal on Tuesday it will work out ok. I hope you have a restful and relaxing weekend. Let us know how you get on during your appt next week.

in reply to Alaine1

Thank you for your reply, you may be right, but perhaps you can understand where I'm coming from. I do tend to worry, when sometimes there is no need. So I will just wait until Tuesday now to see my GP.

As for Mary, I think your wrong, and I do think she comes across sarcastic, and uncaring. But thanks for your help.

Hi Gemini, I have just read the replies that you have had, some helpful, some a bit OTT. However, I had a very High LFT (normal range around 50, mine was 2,780) My doctor rang me as soon as he had received the results and I was immediately admitted to hospital for urgent treatment. I am sure that if anything was dangerously outside the normal range you most definitely would've been contacted immediately. Hope all goes well for you tomorrow, fingers crossed you will find out what the doctors are looking for and receive the treatment you need. Good luck, remember to let us know.

Thank you so much lipsyl,I'll be sure to let you know.
