Pain where you get period cramps no on period

Hi guys, so here’s what happened. Last night I woke up in the middle of the night with severe pain where you would get a period cramp on the right side and a pain in my butt like I was constipated. I have been pooping regularly so that can’t be it. It lasted for about 10 min and went away. I also had felt like I was going to throw up and was very nauseous. Something that might help figure out what is wrong is that for the past 3 or 4 weeks when I am aroused I get a pain or throw on the right side of my clit area. It’s very strange and only when I’m aroused. I am a virgin and 19 and don’t know what is going on. Any ideas?

Hi,

It’s possible you might have pelvic floor dysfunction which can occur either as a result of another medical condition or on its own possibly from a previous UTI that wasn’t treated, tensing the pelvic floor incorrectly either during exercise or simply when cold, as a result of threat i.e. some rushing past you quickly or past your pelvic area quickly which might be perceived as a threat. Any can get it no matter what their age is. The best way to check this out would be to see a women’s health pelvic floor physiotherapist. These can be seen on the nhs where unfortunately the waiting times can be very long and a maximum number of visits and treatments offered. I myself went privately and the cost will depend on the part of the country you are based and whether you see someone in a city or in a local town. Mine occurred as a result of 3 different medical conditions affecting the pelvis but the description you have given don’t sound like are suffering from any these.

Another condition you might be suffering from is IBS. Again you don’t need to be getting diarrhoea or constipation but you can get pain anywhere in the bowel (just like you can get cramps associated with periods in any part of the pelvis). Pain with IBS can be fleeting and last for 5-10 minutes or be in the background throughout the day with a flare up or two. Was the pain associated with anything? Food? sitting twisted so the bowel is twisted?

I can’t think of anything that the pain could be associated with. I ate normal food. I hate chocolate before bed.., the pain woke me up in my dead sleep at like 6 am and when I awoke I was laying flat on my back so I don’t think I could have twisted anything. All day It will come and go but it will feel very very lightly pain and super quick. Nothing like the pain I had when I awoke. Yesterday was also my ovulation day idk if that makes a difference. I’m going to set up an appointment for the obgyn and see if they can find anything just to be sure.

We all move during the night, I know I do! It sounds as though it’s only been over the last month this pain has started. Pain can’t be completely unrelated to periods but be made worse during that time because the bowel, bladder and other organs all respond to hormones. I know in the UK they generally say wait 3-6months before going to see a specialist as at this stage the pain is only considered acute rather than chronic. Women’s health physiotherapists are amazing and are equally good at finding a diagnose that gynaes sometimes miss so that if I were you would be my first port of call at this stage rather than seeing a gynae. There isn’t anything you’ve written that leaves me super concerned but if it reassures you to make an appt then I think that’s the way to go. Let us know what the specialist says so we can continue to support you 😊

Thank you for responding though! I just want to make sure it’s not like an infection or something wrong with my ovaries or Fallopian tubes. But I will keep you updated!

That’s ok, that is what we are here for 😊. You can get ovary pain in the absence of any medical condition but it’s more hormonal based and some women do get a little pain when the egg is released. I hope your pain settles quickly and you manage to get some answers.
