I had an ovarian abscess last month. Long story short, I had several weeks of not feeling good, fevers and body aches were my only symptoms. Walk in clinics said virus. When the fevers persisted and elevated, and finally getting an apt with my GP, he ran many tests and my white count was very high. Going to the ER a mass was found on a CAT scan. At first they told me it was cancer. They spoke too soon, and I am upset about that. After a team of speciality doctors reviewed my case, they determined it was an ovarian abscess and was quite large. They were shocked I did not have any pain. The only thing I felt was pressure and I thought it was gas. They drained it using a CAT scan as a guide and placed a tube and drain bag that I had for 2 weeks. The majority of the abscess drained within a few hours but the scans showed a bit more so they kept it in for the 2 weeks. I got it removed 2 weeks ago. I am writing in for some support from anyone that has been through this. Test show that I do not have any STD's or yeast or anything. They say this is possible as well to get these accesses, and they were wondering if it started in my intestines bc the infection was e coli. They were speculating that maybe my intestines perforated and caused leakage on the ovary and caused this, but again they are not sure.
So 2 weeks after the drain was removed, I have pain on that side. I had a followup with the gyno and will be repeating scans in a month. I told her I had some pain on the side and she didn't seem too concerned. So I am asking you ladies that went through this, how did you feel after your cyst was drained? Is tis pain expected since I had a drain stuck to my ovary for 2 weeks, is it still healing or should I be worried it came back? I am very scared.

Hi. First off I just want to say I’m so sorry your going through this . I’m going through this as well and it’s sucks . Our story is kind of similar . It started in 2015 when I just started having sex (TMI sorry ) and weeks later I’ve been have std symptoms. Went to the doctor and first they said I had what was called bacterial vaginosis . None of the treatment helped so I did home remedies didn’t work either . Went back this year they said everything was negative then went back in October and they said I had a yeast infection. At this point I decided to do research . My symptoms are really just inflammation in the vaginal and now I’m just now experiencing fluttery feelings on my ovaries, pressure , and gas like what you said . What I think I have is called an Vaginal ecoli infection. I’m just scared to go to the doctor because What if they say something like cancer ? And the bad and sad part about it is I can’t find anyone that has this infection and has at least treated or cured it I’m only 19 and I really want kids ......
Please go to the doctor and get a full examination. I was told that NON STD infections ie (yeast, BV) can cause PID and ovarian absesses. The information on the web is misleading. It will say only STDs cause an abscess but that is untrue. I am living example of that. I am well now, thank goodness. Please go to the doctor and let them diagnose you properly.
And you said you are well now . I know you said they drained your abscess but did they also give you medication for the ecoli to go away ? And is the ecoli gone ?
I had a severe infection in my intestines. I was sick with diarrhea for many days, they think it may have been bc of this. The e coli is gone. I was on IV antibiotics for a week and oral antibiotics for weeks after.
