severe menopausal problems
Out of interest spoul, do you have the dreaded itch? If so, how has that been with the HRT?
I'm 47 and though at the moment I'm going strong regards the monthly cycle, at some point I am going to start the menopause. Since I was aware something was wrong in 2010 and then got diagnosed with PBC Dec 2010, I started to notice that around the time and during my period the itch seems so much worse. So obviously I wonder if this is going to be an on-going thing when I hit menopause.
Hi there, I never had itch after taking urso, sounds like yours is hormonally linked to me,take care
Hello again.
As I understand it, URSO apparently can help with the itch once diagnosed PBC and I think from others, it's a bit hit and miss.
I know I had the itch worse before I got diagnosed and started on URSO. I did have the itch during the day back then in 2010 but not as unbearable as in the evening. Slowly as the days and weeks and months by with using URSO the itching vanished during the day and then the evenings became a case of 4 nights of no itching, then several more with the itch. Recently I went 5 days with no itch.
The specialist informed me that patients he sees with PBC report a big improvement in the itch after URSO.
I still think if one of the unfortunates to have cyclical itch as it is known if occurs at a similiar time each day it is probably because by that time there's been a whole day of mealtimes and digestion is still taking place.
Have read is thought to be reabsorption of a bile salt that causes the itching but I also think in my opinion they irritate the tiny nerve-endings that results in the itch.
It's good to read other people's experience using URSO, be great if we could all follow the same suit, the URSO solving the itch but apparently it doesn't. I'm not the best with PBC due to still knowing about the itch at times but on the whole I am in pretty 'good nick' currently with no other symptons (the fatigue sort of vanished mths after taking URSO and a bit of a lifestyle change) but I also understand there are others out there who struggle badly with the itch and end up trying other
medications to alleviate this.
Find this PBC rather puzzling at times.... tc
hi sorry to hear that the urso didn't work for your itch, my worst symptom is fatigue which is horrendous. I had to retire early after work made huge allowances for me over the last ten years. Its now 18mths since i finished work, my quality of life is much improved, I still have to sleep for 2 hours every afternoon then I'm revived for the rest of the day. Good luck with the itch x
Started my menopause early 40's. Suffered badly from the flushes and sweats so have been on HRT - quite a high dose to start with and now lower dose for the past 15 years! Itch still not a major problem. Look after yourselves.
hi there i believe there is a lot of controversary about the use of hrt and pbc, my liver specailist wasn't keen when i made an enquiry some years ago, however i did some research myself and found that the patches were ok for people with liver disease because they bypass the liver. Nice to hear from you
The first signs that I was ill were through sever night sweats, I was on HRT at the time so it wasn't flushes that were causing it, I have now after three years been put back on HRT as they said it would improve my quality of life, it hasn't improved my quality of life, I suffer from the itch and urso hasn't made any difference to it, I also need to go to bed in the afternoons for 2 to 3 hours and a lot of the time I conk out for longer 4, 5, or even 6 hours is not unknown. I also have bad joint pain.
wheni was first diagnosed at 39 i was frigthened and trolled the internet for answers, but recently my consultant said to me( now age 52) its unlikely that pbc will kill you you'll probably die of something else
best reassurance i could have got, inspite of the american websites telling you';; need transplant in ten years!!
Hi, I suffered really badly with terrible sweats both night and day. I was referred to the menopause clinic at hospital and was put on hrt patches. I reduced from a high dose to a moderate strength and know this is as far as I can drop. Its an eostrogen only patch and the consultant says I can stay on it for as long as I want. Problem is gps dont agree and keep trying to reduce it and take me off which gave me terrible problems. Both gastro and menopause consultant agree that they are not sure if its pbc or menopause that is causing the awful sweats and that using oestrogen only patches for a long time will cause no harm. I just wish they would all agree. Although I still get periods of sweating infrequently I feel much better on the patches. I only get itching cycles once in a blue moon. I suffer mostly from joint and muscular pains. Extreme fatigue has and always will be the biggest problem. I have been on Urso for over 15 years.
