Severe dizziness?

I have PBC/AIH overlap. Been suffering from really severe dizziness...like the kind you feel from heavy duty narcotics (anesthia or iv pain meds) had it all night last night and ongoing today. Nothing seems to alleviate it.

I too have the overlap and have been suffering from vertigo / dizziness for no reason. It often happens while I am sitting, and sometimes when I stand up (I've learned to stand up really s-l-o-w-l-y) and last week I fell quickly (no obstacles) and don't think I was dizzy b/c it happened so fast. I too, would like to know what is causing it and perhaps anything that would make us feel better. I drink lots of water and eat a rather healthy diet, but the dizzines just seems to come with no rhyme or reason.

Also have overlap - same problem. Have to concentrate hard sometimes to stop wobbling.

Must go see the doc. Could just be iron deficiency or something easy treated. Get off the web and make an appointment

Check out for benign positional vertigo - there are online guides with easy exercises. I had 2 bouts of vertigo/dizziness (7 and 3 years ago) and ended up having brain/middle ear scans to check for Meniere's Disease. The wonderful first consultant said the vertigo can be a less common symptom of the whole peri/menopause fiasco, and the worst phases of my dizziness did tie in with that - the first time vertigo occurred, 7 years ago, I was having monthly bouts. Since the 2nd phase, 3 years ago, I've managed my own dizziness with the bpv exercises [my own decision, not discussed with my GP, but it hardly ever happens now] and that really worked. I know it happened when I was tired, stressed, or run down.

I gather that vertigo-like dizziness can also be a symptom of hypoglycaemia, and also of hypothyroidism, but my glucose and thyroid levels are checked along with my lfts, so I know I'm okay. But it might be worth having those checks done by your GP. Hope things improve.

get your blood pressure checked, Iv had the same symptoms that can last up to a week long, scary, turns out i suffer from hypotension, rest and increase salt intake sorts it out for me ;)

I can have early morning hypotension, and my fix is plenty of water and breakfast. It feels different than my dizziness of Meniere's disease though. The low blood pressure makes me feel as though I will faint, and the Meniere's feels as though I am spinning, as on a merry go round.

The increase in salt will raise the blood pressure, but with Meniere's disease, it will make things far worse.

Hello.

Low blood sugar can also cause dizziness as just noticed Gritty Reads has mentioned.

My daughter as a teen used to suffer from feeling dizzy and faint and then usually ended up being sent home from school. This went on for some time. The GP reckoned down to puberty and also the fact my daughter frequently would skip breakfast and was noon before she was having her lunch and her blood sugars were low.

Regardless if something persists then it is wise to seek a doctor's advice.

A friend of mine was suffering something similar a few years ago and she ended up seeking medical advice. After going to see a consultant it was deemed she was suffering from labrynthitis at the time (I've never heard of it so don't know symptoms). She did inform me at the time that the doctor had given her a prescription for Prozac and she wasn't going to take it.

Also it could be caused be allergies with pressure on the ear or extremely low vit D also caused it with me. For the part they told me to take meclazine ( over the counter for car sickness and pretty sure I spelled it wrong ) the low vit D is all Dr u b amazed on how much this effects and how much you feel better once they get it straightened out I hope my two cents worth helps

It's interesting to hear your comment about Vitamin D, as I did just go to the doctor two weeks ago and found my levels are extremely low --- again. I am back on the 50,000 IU weekly pills for another 8 weeks and my doctor asked me to follow the series by bumping up to 5,000 IUs daily to see if my body can absorb more.

I also get extremely tired very easy and crave things I don't like such as pickles my Dr has me on 100,000 ius once a week -when they figured it out my vit d level was at 10 it shouldn't be below 30 - I'm pretty sure it's working because the cravings are not near as bad as they were

Dear ZiggyBean -

If I get dizzy it is because I am bleeding internally. So then I get anemic. I have bleeding varices which can happen with more advanced PBC. You will need to have your hemoglobin checked to make sure. Hope this helps.

Ziggybean, I have Meniere's disease to go along with the PBC. I diagnosed a years ago, but the onset was vertigo. Now I deal with dizziness most every day, worse after each vertigo attack. I've 3 attacks in this year.

Are you taking Nadalol? Maybe you need to reduce your dosage?

Ok this is freaky....I have been suffering dizziness on standing and I also have headache with it.....my friend who has other health issues suggested to me that whilst I am taking steroids ( 2 years) they take over the work my adrenals normally do and she suggested I get my adrenals checked because she has addisons disease which is the adrenals, and a symptom of adrenal fatigue ( different from addisons) is dizziness on standing. I take steroids, urso and mercaptopurine (allergic to azathioprine).AIH/PBC.

I take prednisolone; currently on 5mg reduced from 30 over a period of 8 months. I last saw my consultant in August and was told my next appointment would be 12 weeks. It is now 7 months, my consultant left the NHS and I still have no idea who has taken my case on. I have had other odd symptoms, slowing up completely, backache and weakness in legs......fatigue and joint pain has always been my worst issue. I think I need to ring the hospital and ask when my next appointment will be, and who if anyone will I be seeing.
