Yesterday morning after being up a while and out of the blue, I suffered severe pain in upper abdomen on the right and agoing around my back. This lasted for about 3 hours and I couldn't move, then gently wore off. Haven't had anything like this since being diagnosed nearly 4 years ago. Phoned Dr this morning but there was nothing they could do as the pain has completely gone.
Any advice or help please.

Liver itself doesn't have nerves so it can't hurt. If liver is enlarged due to PBC scarring, it can push on neighboring organs and that could hurt. The important question, what stage is your PBC and the amount of scarring. If you are at the low stage with no scarring and no enlarged liver (which is verified by ultrasound) than your pain was caused by something unrelated to your liver, maybe gallbladder. If you had severe pain for several hours, you doctor could order an abdominal ultrasound just to check things out. Good luck.
I have been suffering more liver pain in last year. I told my consultant and have just had an ultrasound. Waiting for appointment next week to get results. Will keep you updated.
Sounds very like gallstones. I had three episodes of extreme severe pain that started like that, over the space of three months, each time worse. Had gallbladder removed 10 years ago, fine since but diagnosed with PBC last year. Your GP should send you for a scan.
I experienced exactly the same about 3 weeks ago, the pain was intense. The Gp sent me to A&E they have an “Same day assessment area”. I had an Ultrasound to check for gallstones, it did not show any acute reason for the pain. I have been booked in to see the consultant. It’s been niggling pain since.
