pemphigoid

my mother passed away from pemphigus because she was hemorrhaging from her mouth and nose etc. dr thought her labs were false positives and kept taking her off the steroids to redo the same tests. It also attacked her lungs. She had it for less than a year before she passed so i would recommend not waiting for treatment. Besides steroids they tried nothing until she was rushed to a bigger city but it was too late. I would go to the university of Utah hospital where she was treated. They were amazing and learned a lot about pemphigoid from her case.

I am so sorry to hear about your Mom. I have never heard of this disease. When I looked it up I found it is an auto immune disease often mistaken as Lupus. I'm sure you did wonder why they kept taking her off of the steroids when those are the treatment of choice. It seems to be fairly rare - only about 12 out of 100,000 people get it. I agree that when we begin to have symptoms that are unrelated or have no explanation to any current medical conditions we have, it is so important to get to the doctor for a diagnosis and hopefully a treatment. Again, I am so sorry you've lost your Mom. Thanks for bringing this condition to all of our attentions.
