Had the US today. Nurse practitioner called me late in the day with findings. Compared to my last US taken 4 months ago they found nothing different. She said everything looked the same. I wish I could feel good about this, I mean thank goodness there are no masses, or tumors etc. but, 3 of my LFT's are up higher than they've ever been. And I've had this nausea and pain for 4 days. It was better last night and I didn't have nausea this morning so, whatever is happening seems to be subsiding. Still, what about the rising LFT's?? I asked her that very question. She really didn't have an answer. She doesn't know. I asked her if the 4 strain flu shot could've made this happen cause I had a flu shot 9 days ago. She said no. She did say maybe it was a stomach virus that caused the pain, being that the stomach and liver are close together. And I said, what about the LFT's? Could a stomach virus cause the LFT's to go up? She said.. No. So, her answers were no real comfort to me. She wants to run labs again next Monday. If they are the same or higher, she wants to do a CT scan and go from there.
Tonight, I don't have any nausea but I do have a small (like, leftover) pain in my back right side and a dull ache (with movement) in the front liver area. So, its getting better but, labs don't lie. Something going on or, did go on and its not showing up on the US. So, labs again next Monday and we go from there.

Hopefully, maybe it is something transient & will go back to normal. I hope you feel better & are okay. Can you check in with your hepatologist or have the doctor consult with him. It might help to get another medical opinion on this.
Sorry that you have not found an answer. We do know that blood tests can fluctuate and I believe that when we are poorly, such as a virus, it can affect our results. I know from what you have written that the professional does not feel that to be the case but I am sure over the years I have read that others have experienced fluctuations in the LFTs. Please try not to worry as this will almost certainly impact on your well being, always easier said than done, I know.
As ninjagirlwebb has said a second opinion may be a good idea if the LFTs next Monday still give cause for concern.
Sorry to hear your no further forward, my sister is a nurse and she has always said that viruses, etc can have an affect on LFT results.I frequently have bouts of liver pain and nausea and they are usually at the same time, it just comes and goes don't know what causes it. I often feel as if I'm constantly waiting! On tests, appointments or results and it can be stressful not knowing... try not to worry. We are all on this big merry go round together
To be honest I've been having US scans every six months since 2012 and they say the same thing every time there's no change and yet my fibroscan results have gone up to 16.3. I've been having stomach
Problems for about 2 years and still none the wiser to what it is. Recently had a endoscopy and colonoscopy to see what's going on . Still awaiting results. I am currently on a clinical trial so my lfts are within range. My personal thoughts are that stomach problems are all to do with my pbc.
Hope you start feeling better soon because nothing worst than not knowing what's going on. Take care and try not to worry
I’m sorry that you are having issues with pain and elevated LFTs. Hopefully the doctor will be able to give you some answers. The nurse at my gastroenterologist’s office is insistent that I watch what I eat for several days before testing and drink lots of water in the hours prior to testing. If you are dehydrated all of your counts can be off. I went for an MRI early one morning and hadn’t had anything to drink. They had to do a blood test and insisted I drink 16 oz of water before they did the test. She worried that my kidney counts would be off because of morning dehydration and then they wouldn’t be able to give me the dye. Anyway, I’ve learned to drink lots of liquid before blood tests to reduce concentrations in the blood. I’ve been a bit out of touch lately as my closest friend passed away from an eating disorder at 74. Just so difficult to comprehend. Anyway wanted to keep in touch but am not sure how to use the Hello function. Cindy
Hello, well, they didn't go down but continue upward especially my ALT. 117 and rising. I'm scheduled for an MRE tomorrow. Nervous about the results. Still having nausea. 😔
Hey Stella, do what you got to do to get through it! No shame in that. I'll take a Valium if needed to get through testing or a nerve wrecking dr. Visit.
Will be looking for update- and sending up a prayer for you- may you have a kind and helpful tech who puts you at ease.
