Hi everybody, I’ve just been told that I should now start ocaliva aswell as urso I’m so worried about side effects after reading up on it, wondering how many of youse are getting on with it did you have lots of side effects ect!!

I have been on 5 mg ocaliva since 2017. I have never had side effects. Not everyone has side effects.

Im on ocaliva for 3 months now. Had a few side effects, the worst is the itching. Still doesnt show any improvment... But all together Im Still on it and wel see If anything changes, I was very afraid from the side effects l, But for the chance the medication will work its worth it. Im on 1500mg urso, 400 mg bezafibrate and not responding...

Hi Lena. I understand the fear about side effects but I think we need to keep them in perspective. There are thousands of people around the world on OCA, many of whom do not have side effects. There are others who experienced itch and have normalised (usually within a few weeks) without any intervention. Some have had increased itch and have been treated for it. Others have come back off OCA and are on a different medication.

All the indicators tell us OCA can be an immensely helpful tool for clinicians in PBC disease management.
